Yeah, "Gurls" is probably their most perfect pop song, definitely should've (and could've) been a hit. Honestly though, I don't much love the albums; Alex Chilton's melodies just don't grab me half the time.
Badfinger and the Raspberries were much better IMHO.

Love that "Complete IASW Sessions" box so much. My one tiny complaint about the original LP is that Tony Williams is so restrained.

I am once again transcending to the mind blowing sounds of Fishmans' final ever live performance. To make y'all listen to it I'm going to accompany it with a hot take - this song is miles ahead of anything Pink Floyd ever did. Seriously, it makes 'Echoes' sound like 'Love Me Do '.

Listening to Earth, Wind & Fire catalog on shuffle, so lovely. I'll alert the Beatley Moments thread if their Fabs cover shows up anytime soon.

*loads silver duelling pistol* well now I refuse to listen to it based on those manipulative tactics and I'm afraid we're gonna have to have it out at high noon in Main Street

A nice tasty playlist of various McCartney, Pink Floyd, and Zeppelin acousticy/down-home/pastoral/folksy tunes from about 1970-1973 that I've made for all my yardwork needs.(I've not finalized the tracklisting or running order as I'm listening to it on shuffle.) I think lovelyritametermaid might enjoy it.
Edit: I forgot to add, I'm looking to expand it, any suggestions are welcome (CSN perhaps?)
Ooh ooh ooh! I have a few suggestions! I love this kind of stuff.
"Sister Golden Hair" (which is 1975, but eh, you couldn't really pass it up for something as trivial as that. Also, fun fact: It was produced by George Martin!) and "Ventura Highway" by America are lovely, and I can't help but see you've missed a couple of very good CSN/CSNY tunes in "Our House" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes". "Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels)" by Jim Croce is an absolutely incredible song, as well. For something Canadian, how about "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell?
And oh GOODNESS. Nick Drake! He created some of the best folk music I've ever heard; he's got a special place in my heart. Really, you could pick any number of songs from his short-but-marvelous discography, the quality is that high. But, off the top of my head, I'd suggest maybe " 'Cello Song", "Place To Be", "From The Morning" and "One Of These Things First".
Well, and with that, I'm currently listening to:

I second this. Pink Moon is easily my most listened of his albums, but any of them are great really.

@Beatlebug if you haven’t seen it check out Echo In The Canyon, an amazing doc that dives into Laurel Canyon in the 60s and 70s and all the fantastic music that came out of it. Carolina native and Apple Records signee James Taylor has always been one of my all time favorite artists, and should definitely be grouped in with CSN, Neil Young, Joni, and all the rest as an all time great songwriter.

Great suggestions @WeepingAtlasCedars. Ventura Highway is the perfect expression of how I feel when I'm cruising around listening to music:
'Cause the free wind is blowin' through
Your hair
And the days surround you daylight
There
Seasons crying no despair
Alligator lizards in the air
Thinking of the actual Ventura Highway reminds me of the time I was dropping my daughter off at Uni for the first time. We were driving down the 405 in LA listening to Free Fallin' and I pointed out some passing exit signs:

She had no idea these were actual places...
Don't be upset but she has never heard of Tom Petty. She loves the John Mayer version
