You're Gonna Lose That Girl. I may listen to the rest of Help when it's over, or I may transition into George. I'm in the mood for a George-songs-made-while-he-was-with-the-Beatles marathon today.

The following people thank 50yearslate for this post:

Released 45 years ago today, a distinctly underrated gem from the tail end of Glam Bowie john-lennon-salute_gif:

Again. ahdn_john_08_gif I love this album. paul-mccartney-thumb_gif I listened to 'Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing (Reprise)' on repeat last night whilst drawing, and I'm not sure how I'm even able to type this now, because my brain has been so blown by the geniusity of the song*.

*okay it's technically three songs but I think of it as one continuous medley piece

It verges from the sublime to the ridiculote

I love this song so much, one of my favourite musical show tunes. Of the seldom times I wish I were a lad, it'd be to be able to play Tony- his songs are brilliant and I am nowhere capable of being Maria.

Tall, dark-haired QuarryMan likes basketball, music, and naturally, boys. He was a valuable participant on the track team. He is one of Freeport's great contributors to the recording world. As for the immediate future, QuarryMan has no plans, but will take life as it comes.

While on 12 May I confided
….and now we reach 1964 and Bobby's taking stock, touring and working out what the arrival of the Beatles means. He only spends three hours, one evening in June, in the studio all year, invites a bunch of friends along, gets through two bottles of Beaujolais, and records the whole of the Another Side album with three tracks to spare!!! The first Beatles/Dylan summit takes place in New York in August. The influence of Bob on them, especially John, is evident on the year end Beatles For Sale . Dylan's producer Tom Wilson tries a couple of experiments at the end of year, he overdubs an electric band onto Simon & Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence, which he releases, and does the same to a couple of Bob's acoustic tracks, which he plays Bob...

And on 15 May I spouted
...1965 and it's all change, what popular music sounded like and said – its limits – was possibly redefined more in that year than any other, and few were as important Bob as he strapped on a Fender. 1965 is daunting as he's officially released, one way or another, virtually every existing note recorded that year. With the studio sessions mixed differently to the original album masters, I decided to include Bringing It All Back and Highway 61 Revisited as released. Didn't matter so much with the one-person acoustic recordings. He start the year backed by an acoustic band of friends and session players, and ends it onstage with Ronnie Hawkins backing band, The Hawks. War has been declared between artist and audience, and the Hawks have taken their first step on the road to becoming the Band...

* Bob Dylan & The Hawks

I reached the end of 1965 on Thursday. Then I got caught up in the fall of May. Now I'm back on the Bobby trail in 1966. A study in speed-psychosis. The recording of the majority of Blonde on Blonde, and probably the most hostile tour in rock history. That, beginning late-'65, was playing out to a strange script nightly (in which the audience became the improvised unscripted extra) – a hushed reverence with appropriate applause through-out the first acoustic set, though there's not a protest song in sight anymore, a short intermission, and then Bob and the Hawks emerge to catcalls and varying boos. The Hawks went through three drummers. And, with a little more tutoring through the Basement Tapes, became The Band.

Hmmm, maybe at some point @Beatlebug a-hard-days-night-george-10

Currently checking out the new FlyLo album, which arrived a couple of days ago in a week full of releases (Igor, Injury Reserve, Carly Rae Jepsen, Slowthai and others)

Tall, dark-haired QuarryMan likes basketball, music, and naturally, boys. He was a valuable participant on the track team. He is one of Freeport's great contributors to the recording world. As for the immediate future, QuarryMan has no plans, but will take life as it comes.

Revolver . I Want To Tell You is such a good song. So is Good Day Sunshine . And it just goes to show how completely stunningly amazing Revolver is, because those songs are nothing compared to some of the greats of Revolver , but they're still completely fabulous. I don't know if it's my favorite Beatles album, but I think it is probably their best.

I overheard my neighbour blasting it again yesterday so I needed to hear it anyway. It's that kind of weather. Hot As Sun.

[Radiohead]

Good choice. john-lennon-salute_gif

(I need to listen to that song, actually. But it's Radiohead so I'm sure it's good. a-hard-days-night-john-6)
