Wogblog report on ‘Abbey Road ‘ and ‘Pepper’ appearing in the US Top 10 Best-Selling Vinyl Albums chart of 2014. ‘Abbey Road ‘ was #4 with sales of 38,200 whilst Pepper reached #7 after sales of 33,600.
This reminds me of part of a conversation I had with the shopkeeper at a record store on Beale Street a few weeks ago. He said when a new vinyl album comes out, it becomes his top seller for a couple of weeks, but then The Beatles always come back to be his top sellers.

And here’s the bad news about that. I heard from a record store owner that prices on new Beatles vinyl releases are going to be spiked up in the near future due to the success vinyl had last year.
I think the increase is to do with the recent Universal price hike, though I could be wrong.
The White Album is already nearly £50 on Amazon.co.uk. Sure, it’s a double, but original pressings aren’t selling for much more than that. This stuff isn’t rare! There were millions of copies made. I can’t wait till vinyl goes out of fashion so I can buy more of it, though unless more vinyl presses are built (more capacity, more efficient machines) I can’t see the prices coming down.

That’s probably it. The music industry is milking this trend while it lasts.
It’s really sad when ‘artists’ like One Direction are releasing albums on vinyl. If it wasn’t popular they wouldn’t be interested.
I have an unopened 2012 Hard Days Night Vinyl, maybe that’ll be worth something soon.

Wasn’t there some report a while back about the cost of pressing vinyl getting more expensive? Additionally its a select market where they know that the folk who want it will pay for it regardless as its more of a luxury (or can be argued as such). Tho anyonebuying a Katy Perry or One Direction LP is a surprise to me, would have thought they would be downloading – tho i suppose its currently hip to own a piece of plastic (tho i have images in my head of them trying to get it to fit in the laptop cd drive so they can rip it to their online cloud).

Most new vinyl comes with a download code, so people can play the files, plus have a nice thing with Katy Perry on it to hang on their wall. Or whatever a Katy Perry album is good for, I dunno.
OK, gripe number two of the day. McCartney’s Hope For The Future single is £14.50 on vinyl from UK Amazon. Or I could buy it from their US store and get it sent 3,000+ miles across the Atlantic, for a total cost of £9.74 ($16.46). Where the logic in that?

That’s quite possible. I’ve seen the one direction single that came out for the last proper RSD (because there are so many unsold copies at the store) and it’s a 45 picture disc, small enough for them to try and shove in a computer and with something about it they can display on their wall like Joe said.
Who knows. Maybe there are some twelve-year-old, die-hard 1D fans that prefer the sound of the band on vinyl.

While watching that video, I noticed another video labeled ‘Cleaning Vinyl Records the Way Experts Recommend’. It was over 57 minutes long. Do they recommended using tweezers to delicately pluck the dust off an album? I wasn’t going to waste an hour of my life finding out.

I think it’s because the machines used just aren’t built anymore, isn’t it?
I read an article about vinyl recently and the guy who wrote it said his daughter had asked him for a record. He asked her which one she wanted, to which she replied: ‘it doesn’t matter, they just look cool’.
Part of the reason why they’re seen as ‘cool’ (whatever that is) now is because you can get them in places like Urban Outfitters, I think.

And UO also sell those crappy Crosley all-in-one turntables which will turn records into wreckords. Not so cool.
Still, in the 80s and 90s I used to play all my stuff on an old Dansette, because I didn’t know any better (and couldn’t afford a proper turntable). I shudder when I think of the way I treated my original Beatles, Pixies, Nirvana etc. They sound pretty terrible now but I hope a good clean will sort out most of the problems.

So I guess I should upgrade my record player! It’s not one of the cheap ones, but it’s Crosley. How long does it take to do real damage? If you play a new record on it a few times will it sound horrible on a good player?

Definitely not. The ability of a turntable to destroy a record is greatly exaggerated. It won’t be good long term, but if you don’t have the cash right now, the Crosley won’t totally kill the record in a few plays.

I think Faceo is right. Do think about upgrading, but don’t stop spinning discs in the meantime (though perhaps not anything valuable). If you’re worried about degradation just play the digital downloads for the time being.
From what I’ve read people seem to fall into three camps: 1. My Crosley sounds OK to me; 2. Use that Crosley sparingly; and 3. OMG YOU’RE RUINING YOUR RECORDS! Have a browse through some of these threads and see how opinions differ.

I’ll soon have some Beatles vinyl coming in the mail. The records belonged to my ex-girlfriend’s brother, who died of a heroin overdose. I don’t which albums there will be, though. The family is sending them. It is a sad way to get Beatles vinyl, but I have fond memories of the owner. He made me laugh.

Someone is releasing a 10″ EP of Paddy, Klaus and Gibson’s recordings. Three colour vinyl variants, 300 copies pressed. €27 is about £20 or $30.
I found the info on WogBlog.
Paddy, Klaus & Gibson – limited edition 10 inch release!
The orthopedist and Beatles fan Dr. Dieter Hoffmann gave himself a labour of love when he produced a 10 inch EP with all the six tracks released by Paddy, Klaus and Gibson. This is an official, limited to 300 copies edition (in 3 vinyl colours), and with the permission of Klaus Voormann and Gibson Kemp. The cover has the original Klaus Voormann drawing from the rare “She”/”Peanut Butter” back cover, retouched by John Frankland. The record can be ordered for € 27 including shipping, only from Dr. Hoffmann himself, by sending a mail to drdieterhoffmann@aol.com.

I’ve done that a time or two!
By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.
One of my biggest regrets is the time when my brother and I took a couple of knives to my copy of Thriller and wrecked it. We were about 13, 15, had outgrown our pop phase (so naive) and decided that vandalism was more exciting. I think we scribbled on it with the blades and wrote our names in the vinyl. I’ve still got it but daren’t look – it still breaks my heart to think about, and I really should buy a replacement copy. Of all the albums to ruin, we had to choose a stone-cold classic…

I do have to admit, it is a shame to wreck an album like “Thriller”. Especially considering you can’t listen to “The Girl is Mine” anymore. But I wouldn’t hold anything against you for that, Joe. It was teenage mindsets that did it (the kind that brings out destruction). So I would not feel bad, especially after learning from it.
