Announcement – pinned post
We are immensely sad to share the news that Mark (Ron Nasty) recently passed away after a long and dignified battle with ill-health. Mark was a deeply respected and much admired member of the forum who through his incredible love and wealth of knowledge of the Beatles contributed so much to the forum, all of which will be deeply missed. There is far too much to start to list all he gave to here; it simply will not be the same without him around.
Mark also made a number of friends through the forum, and we know that his passing will be heavily felt by so many for reasons aside from the Beatles. Please feel free to post your thoughts and memories in this thread if you wish, but if anyone requires a space to air their thoughts privately please remember the mods can be contacted via a PM.

Dear @Ron Nasty, I’m sure I speak for the forum in expressing our concern for your health and sincere hope for your speedy recovery. I thought it would be great to have a thread to share these feelings, so here we go. Beside comfort and best wishes (and of course the light-hearted forum speak that lifts all our days), I think many of us have experiences to share with you that might be too personal for the general forum threads. When you are up to it perhaps you could post your updates here as well. Until then hoping to hear that you are resting in your own bed enjoying a little #9 Dream.

For someone who claims to be “Nasty,” you sure have a lot of fans and admirers. I recall when I first joined the Forum and we went through the inevitable routine about how Ahhh Girl’s name had changed from CBATCU (or something equally dumb). I asked whether you were formerly known as “Ron Pleasant.” You said you were never pleasant, but that you were not as nasty as your name implied. I think that despite your best intentions, you have turned into a very pleasant Ron. Get well soon so you can continue your journey into Pleasantville. .

I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Hey Ron Nasty,
I feel like I always do really bad at writing these types of things. Anyhow, it’s good that it was caught so early. I won’t claim to know much about what the treatment and recovery involves and I won’t ask. Just get some rest and know that you’re in our thoughts. Update when and if you feel up to it and know that we understand if you have other things to concern yourself with first. And, of course, get well soon.
Your friend and fellow Forumpudlian,
Necko

When someone who’s become a sort of fixture takes a hiatus — whether for good or ill — he and the others may come to realize how his contributions may have been taken for granted. Just today, I posted something in another thread about a little discovery I’d made about an old country music legend, Marty Robbins, and as I did so, I was thinking to myself “I bet Ron Nasty knows some interesting tidbits about him”. I think of Ron as the Encyclopedist of the BB — whenever I’ve had some obscure musicological questions, he’s often better than Google!

Obviously, reasons are known why I haven’t posted properly in this thread before, and we won’t go back over old ground. As people know, I am a lurker on the forum, and only actually log in to post, and I’ve had no update to post here until now.
I really do appreciate the thoughts everyone here has expressed, as I’ve said elsewhere. When one leads as solitary a real life as I do, it’s always nice to know you’re appreciated.
So, went into the GP’s this morning to see the nurse for a blood test to do with a thyroid condition and whether the medication I was put on before Christmas is having the desired effect. She also took my blood pressure, found it very high, and so that’s another medication being added to the many I’m taking at the moment.
Wednesday sees the start of chemo. Not something I’m really looking forward to, and I have no idea how it’s going to hit me. I’m told lots of people wonder what all the fuss is about after the first treatment, but that it hits you harder as it goes along. Weekly treatments for the next four weeks, and then a two week break before the second round. So, if I’m around less over the next few weeks, I know you’ll understand why.
