Got this idea from the username thread while we were discussing my name and it’s meaning.

So basically this thread is to discuss your real name and it’s meaning. Could be first name, middle name, surname..or just discuss any name you like! Discuss what you’d like to call your children if you like! No problem.

I don’t know if there’s enough zest (lol what kind of word is that) for this, but we’ll see.

Okay, I’m game.  My name is “Erich” (German spelling, my father’s parents were Austrian), which I’m told is originally Danish or Icelandic and means “king”.

I also found “eric” which is an Irish word for the price for a man’s life in the Middle Ages which a family can pay to avoid a “blood feud” between tribes.

And “erica” means a kind of heath or shrubbery.

Of all the variants of my name, I like mine the best, with the h.  I’ve seen “Erik” and “Eric” and “Erick”, and there’s an actor named “Eriq LaSalle”.

Cáit is the short version of Caitríona which is a translation of the English name Katherine and there is your Irish language knowledge of the day. Class dismissed!

I think Cáit looks cool — and even better is Caitríona.

EDIT: Gerard is my father’s name. Gerard means spear ruler. I often get mistaken for being Dutch because of my name. Sometimes people approach me and ask me if I’m trying to emulate Steven Gerrard with my name.

It might look cool but it doesn’t sound it, it’s pronounced caw-aw-tch it sounds like you’re choking when you say it with a really thick accent a-hard-days-night-george-10

Cool thread!  My name Trudy (NOT Gertrude…ugh!) says it has both English and German roots.  The English version states my name to mean Adored One.  German version states Adored Warrior.  Hmmm!

My last name (married name) is Meilleur, which in French means Best :)

How do you get caw-aw-tch from Caitriona?!

My name is Autumn, which means… autumn. You know, the season that (where I am) lasts from September to December, when the leaves on the trees turn different colors and then fall off, and when holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving are celebrated, and when school starts, and when the weather starts to become cooler…

I was born in August.

I think if I gave my name away I wouldn’t be much of an unknown.

I’ll say the meaning of my first name is “follower of Christ,” but, my name does not start with a c.

I don’t want to knock this thread but it has occurred to me that this is precisely the kind of thread that Joe said he didn’t really want to see. All carry on by all means but is this topic of conversation really entitled to it’s own thread?

Forgive me, but when/where has he said that? Maybe I’ve read over that bit.

At a guess, I’d say fabfouremily was referring to Joe’s two posts on this page

Well, to quote John Lennon in “Working Class Hero “, I’m just a f&*(&*cking peasant here, not an Owner, but if an Owner is going to create an entire Section delegated for “Non-Beatles discussions” then can he complain about any non-Beatles topics that crop up…?

I mean, of course, can he fairly complain.

I thought Joe was talking more about all of the ranking threads, game threads, and other ones like that. He wants us to have deeper conversations about The Beatles. I agree with Funny Paper, though, this is in All Together Now , so yeah. Calm down.

I thought that was aimed at the Beatles related topics? This is a topic in a non-Beatles section and surely if there’s a topic for ”what people are eating now” or whatever, there could also be a topic on names and their meaning? I personallly find it much more interesting to read about names with meanings, than to read someone is having pizza for dinner. But hey, each to his own (or whatever that expression is)

Edit: Ah I was too slow!
