Who will win in the 70’s rock ring, maybe Queen with such classics as Killer Queen, You’re My Best Friend, Bohemian Rhapsody, Tie Your Mother Down, Somebody To Love, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Fat Bottomed Girls, Bicycle Race, Don’t Stop Me Now, Another One Bites The Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and Under Pressure or maybe AC/DC with such classics as High Voltage, TNT, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock, Highway To Hell, Hell’s Bells, Back In Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, and For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) or maybe even Black Sabbath with their classics in the name of Iron Man, Paranoid, War Pigs, and Children Of The Grave.
For me, I have to say Queen because I can’t think of one band more versatile and influenced by The Beatles except for The Fab Four themselves and Sheer Heart Attack, A Night At The Opera, A Day At The Races, News Of The World, Jazz, Live Killers, and The Game are must haves for anybody (both the person who sang Hot And Cold and One were influenced by said band).

I don’t think they’re comparable whatsoever. They Are too stylistically different 2 compare. That said I will vote AC DC because I hate Queen. They ARe 1 of my least favorite bands ever.

I can’t stand Queen either, except for the Flash Gordon soundtrack, and the songs Another One Bites the Dust, and Under Pressure with David Bowie. Those are all good, actually.

Also, I personally consider both AC/DC and Queen 70’s rock/classic rock/hard rock, although I also consider Queen progressive hard rock (first five albums and Flash Gordon) and pop rock (Hot Space onwards). By the way, Don’t Stop Belevin’ is far more overplayed than We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions (which even I will admit is overplayed).

Hey!!! What about Led Zeppelin???!!!??! They couldn’t qualify for the “king of 70’s rock” title as well?!!??

It’s not a competition. I like both bands in different ways. And there weren’t only 2 70s rock bands out there, y’know… what about Zeppelin to name another?
And wow I can’t believe that there is so much “I don’t like Queen” so far. Hey, people like what they like, and that’s okay. But even though I like both bands if I HAVE to choose I’ll choose Queen. Freddie’s voice (his range!) alone.

Here are more great bands that were active and good the 70s:
Deep Purple
Aerosmith (came back even bigger in the 80s)
Thin Lizzy
Rush
CCR
Uriah Heep
Yes
T. Rex
ELP
Moody Blues
Allman Brothers Band
Eagles
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Rush
Heart
To name a few. Not to mention The Who and the Stones were still (and are still) going strong.

I can change the title and we can make a new poll. Before I do that, is there anyone else we want to include? Or, should I leave out names all together and let people say who they think the King of 70’s rock was?

A lot of great 70’s rock bands have been referenced, but no mention of Steely Dan? They were much, much more than an “Other”.
Regardless, I would say that Elton John was the king in the 70’s hands down, solely based on his world wide popularity. There are acts that may have been more popular in one or two countries, but overall, Elton was it.

Shocking on a forum such as this to at least not hear an argument for Wings. The Wings Over… tours of the mid-’70s were easily up there with the best stadium rock of the time.
