^Just an important note, they’re Irish puppets, none of this British stuff a-hard-days-night-george-10

Irish TV has an obsession with puppets there’s Dustin the Turkey, Soky the Sock Monster, Podge and Rodge, Snotser, Ted, Zuppy, Martin Duck (and that’s just when I was a child, they now have Mammy, Daddy, Bo and Ogie!).

Do Irish puppets use bad words. If they do, I might move to Ireland because I love it when childish things do adult things, like when Big Bird has to go into quarantine or when Shredder and April O’Neil have a sexual relationship until Shredder accidentally stabs her while mourning her death which oblivious to him she staged or when Andy decides to use Buzz Lightyear for some rather XXX things, I wish puppets were more like Robot Chicken.

I don’t blame you there, at first I thought you were saying it’s strange that Pete’s friend had sex with his mother, but now that I know what you’re talking about, it’s even more stranger. Jim was right, people can be very strange.

I dreamt in passing about ‘The Rain Song’ the night before last; so yesterday, I had to go and learn it. Well, it was stuck in my head for the entire rest of the day. I dozed off in the car last night for about two hours, and it still ran through my head THE WHOLE TIME. a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

The song is about 4 minutes too long, the single edit is better in length but it simply fades out in a stupid place. It’s probably one of those songs folk hail for the lyrics but turn off after 5 minutes due to extreme boredom.

I agree that the song is too long, especially for a song with no solos or instrumental sections. I say have the first 3 verse/chorus sequences and then after that repeat and fade out the 3rd chorus.

If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

Interestingly, as the original draft sold a couple of years ago revealed, the song originally had a different ending.

These were the original last lines:

And there I stood alone and afraid
I dropped to my knees and there I prayed
And I promised him everything I could give
If only he would make the music live
And he promised it would live once more
But this time one would equal four
And in five years four had come to mourn
and the music was reborn

The reference here is clearly to the Beatles arrival in America in February 1964 (Buddy Holly’s death occurred in February 1959, five years earlier).

I commented at the time this lost last verse was revealed that I could see why it was dropped, because it couldn’t lead into the mournful version of the chorus, it had to go into the explosive version of it.

I don’t mind the ending myself, it gives the song a matching reflective opening and close, though I do wish he’d found a way to work in those lost lines.

The American Pie album is actually quite good, although most people only know the title track.
