Why does most school music programs teach mainly classical music?

My theory is this:

1. It is easier to learn on instruments like brass and woodwind.

2. The pieces are in the public domain.

3. Classical music does not have any “subconsious influences” (heavy on the air quotes) that rock and roll has.

But I see your point Anna. Why not?

Are you going to be in one this coming school year?

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Getting so angry at my computer because the internet is crappy here. Whenever you load something and play iTunes at the same time, it makes the song skip, even though the recording doesn’t actually skip. The computer makes it do that. I’m so mad!!

By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

The internet wouldnt make itunes play poorly would it, wouldnt it be an actual computer problem? Have a look in task manager and see what programmes are running at the same time. Maybe even scan your computer to make sure nothing is on which shouldn’t be.

Was in Glasgow today. In honour of my visit here is a picture (which i didnt take) of an iconic image from such a wonderful city – Wellington Statue, and yes that is a traffic cone on the Duke’s head.a-hard-days-night-john-1a-hard-days-night-john-5

Yes, I already knew about the Wellington traffic cone. But what ****es me off is that they made a move to raise the height to keep people from putting the traffic cone and it was blocked, saying “The cone has gained a cult following.” Who cares? It makes an important statue look like rubbish. Plus, it’s vandalism! You don’t like the graffitti on Abbey Road signs, Penny Lane signs, and the opening gates to Strawberry Field. Why like this?

By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

Personally i love it, its our sense of humour, and it makes it far more interesting instead of being just another monument in a city centre – and i’m one who liked the graffiti on the Strawwberry Field gates, i wasnt pleased when they painted over them.

I admit, it is very funny and interesting. But I’ve always been sensitive about vandalism, especially when my old house was always the one with “FUCK” painted on the windows and toilet paper streaming everywhere.

By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

There are very different forms and interpretations of what graffiti is. Some view Banksy’s work as graffiti, others see it as art and worth millions.

Yes, I admit there is different public perceptions. Those are just my opinions. Either way, you guys have your own opinions about graffiti. I’m just saying.

For all you people out there:

Have you (or a band you’re in) opened for a large act? Or friends or family who’ve opened a show? I wanna know.

I personally haven’t opened for an act but I do know my guitar teacher who opened for country music stars Toby Keith and Brad Paisley (separate concerts) at the Klipsch Music Center in Indianapolis. Anybody?

By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

Anybody?

I was good friends with a band called Faith Over Reason.

They had a measure of success themselves, but had lots of associations with other acts. Among the acts they supported were Lush, Pavement, Julee Cruise, and Jeff Buckley.

Stephen Malkmus of Pavement produced their second album (some of which was recorded at Abbey Road , which allowed me a wander).

Their lead singer, Moira Lambert, was also guest vocalist on Saint Etienne’s first hit, a cover of Neil Young’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart.

Edit: The voice is Mo in the Saint Etienne video, but the “singer” is not. They had someone else play the singer in the video, because Mo turned down the offer to join the band full time.

That’s very cool! Out of the artists they supported I only know Jeff Buckley and Pavement though.

I’m friends with various people who are in bands, but one of them kind of fell apart after the leadsinger/guitarist decided to go his own way. They were just achieving a bit of local popularity. The band is continueing under a different name. Both the band and singer aren’t really going anywhere, to be honest. Two other friends I have are in a metal band, and I’ve seen them once. I don’t like it, but they’re good at playing their instruments. The guitarist is a beast. The singer imakes me laugh. He does that grunting thing and I can’t help but giggle everytime I hear it because it’s sooo unlike his real voice and doesn’t suit him at all. They’re currently recording an album and have just released a single. Unfortunately for them, metal is a bit of a difficult genre over here, it’s not that popular really. So we probably won’t hear a lot from them.

Someone else I know was in one of the choirs the Rolling Stones have used when performing here though. That’s even better.
