Christmas has been commercialised for years, what with all the junk they sell and promotional tie in's – by this christmas dog that growls white christmas and the cards and banners and decorations and calendars etc.

Yeah, I was at this diner the other day and they already had their decorations up and festive music playing.
Kind to think of it, I heard this cafe playing Christmas music in March. Maybe they weren't paying attention to the CD they were playing or they were just mad.
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away.

Yet you never hear 'Christmas Time (Is Here Again)', not even a cover version! Who doesnt want to hear the incredibly festive lyric of 'O U T spells OUT'?
And talking of christmas why is there still no beatles christmas album? 7 messages just sitting on a shelf somewhere (or on a hundred and one billion bootlegs – well not quite but a lot).

I love those fan club things they did for Christmas, the one included with Rock Band where they (badly) sing “Good King Wencelaus” is HILARIOUS.

"What happens to them?" insisted Milo.
"Oddly enough, they often grow ten times the size of everyone else," said Alec thoughtfully, "and I’ve heard that they walk among the stars."

There's such a thing as Halloween or Thanksgiving music?
Yeah, there actually is. Mostly the 'Swan Lake' soundtrack, “Purple People Eater”, “The Time Warp” and virtually anything by Oingo Boingo.

I'm pretty sure halloween music is Revolution 9
That too, yes
I also find that “Blue Jay Way ” sounds creepy enough to be played on Halloween.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McRae – 1915. Tomorrow (today in the UK already), we celebrate the end of World War 1. In Canada, this is Remembrance Day. Our day to reflect on the military. And to this end, I have a little solemn poem for you today (In Flanders Fields was written by a Montreal doctor. It is, in my opinion, beautiful.):
Today, so many years ago, it ended
4 years of war, of death and blood,
War of the worst kind
Done without care.
But today we remember,
Those who have served.
The men and women, for country
Who have died, never in vain,
For us.
We’ll never know the hardship,
We’ll never know the pain,
But whatever you do,
Keep them in mind.
Life is so fleeting,
Never knowing how long
These men and women do it for us,
And I say to you, thanks.
(My grandfather fought in the Second World War in the RAF. He was in England when the war started, so he signed up in the UK Airforce, not the Canadian. This day means alot. Never, EVER, forget. There’s a legion house outside my school – I’ll stop there at lunch tomorrow for a moment.)

What? Is it thanksgiving already? I wouldn't know. Well, if it is, happy thanksgiving to all the turkeys! (even those who unfortunately ended up on a plate…bless them)
I just realized today that one my fav (non beatles) song ever actually tells about a beatle maniac girl Or rather, George maniac

Well, Canadian Thanksgiving was last month. The American one is in 13 days. (I only know this because I miss the back half if my day to watch the American football games on that day. Because American football is TRUE football.
Edit: Mith and Seaglass, thanks. World War II is a passion of mine, truly. I read the Rise And Fall of the Third Reich in Grade 7. And my school’s ceremony was understated, yet fitting. And I get pizza tonight – the perfect storm. Oh, and I’m reading Romeo and Juliet in English. I love Mercutio, he goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. Which is great to read.

Weird, we're reading Rom and Jul when we finish Gilgamesh. I was in it a couple years ago though, so I remember a lot of stuff. I agree, Mercutio is amazing, he's my favorite character lines-wise. I played Tybalt, which is funny as I'm a girl. I had to lie on stage “dead” for about 10 minutes though. My friend misheard “Tybalt” as Tibbles though, and now she thinks I played some Shakespeare character named Tibbles.

Do you guys get to act out Romeo and Juliet when reading it? That would have been way more fun and interesting than sitting in seats in a class room which is what i had to do.
Its strange how you can look at heavy rain and dread going out but stick your ipod on and it doesnt matter, you get lost in the music. Plus no one is about so you can sing along without fear.
I could loop this happily for ages.

I'm not sure if we'll act it out. When we did Medea we just read it out loud one day and did discussion for the rest.
It's a little weird thinking last week we were doing the Odyssey and this week we're done with Medea and halfway through Gilgamesh. Medea's very short though, and Gil. is quite an easy read.

Speaking of Shakespeare, I was at rehearsal for 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for 8 (!) hours today.
When someone said the line, “Tongue, lose thy light. Moon, take thy flight” , I whispered “See ya, George!”
Oh god, I'd be DYING throughout that entire scene if I was in Midsummer's.
My favorite bit is when Ringo “roars” and it just sounds like a little mew.
