Offline I don’t have a DVD player, a smart TV, access to on-demand is limited to my laptop or phone, I cannot rewind/pause TV, and don’t pay for subscription TV, happily remaining with whatever is on in the belief that what I can’t watch is in no way worth the money to be able to do so. I do pay my BBC license fee but I am firm of the belief that it’s worth it for what we get.

10 years already, dang…and I still don’t have one yet. I think the doomsaying in that article is a little premature, it will take a while for streaming to be everywhere; for example it competes with the rather predatory pay-tv system here (imagine the US cable network but satellite-only and mostly owned by one company). But one thing it has failed in and that’s a backup medium. Just when we got a backup medium that wasn’t painfully small, storage went up again by an order of magnitude. Add to that the ridiculous DRM scheme, which is very painful for penguin os users. People are getting sick of this kind of obsoletism too. I also have a VHS and a turntable AND a cassette player.
