Just heard about this band. Just heard their second album Anthem of The Sun yesterday, it was fun.

While they aren't for everyone, I've been a fan for a long time. I only got to see them live twice. The first was in 1982 at a small 4,800 seat arena in Glens Falls, NY. The second was about a year or so before Jerry died, at a huge open-air venue in Phoenix that holds at least 20,000.

Both shows were fantastic. For now, I have a couple of compilation albums and Jerry's first solo album (very good, IMHO). I have been meaning to bulk up my collection soon.

Um, didnt you refer to Super Furry Animal’s Hometown Unicorn as “Weezer singing The Grateful Dead (I love both)”? Anyway, I haven’t heard much, but I love what I’ve heard.

I certainly did. That's why I need to bulk up my collection.

I’m on a serious Dead kick right now. I’m glad we have a thread for them.

Has anyone watched the new Amazon documentaries about the band? They are great. Fantastic film-making about fantastic musicians.

@Zig if you still haven’t bulked up your collection, PM me. I’ve got the link I think you’ll really enjoy.

I’ve always been a huge Dead fan but have recently been getting really into the very early stuff. I tried to map out all the good soundboard shows and am going through them now. I love Jerry’s guitar tone and Pigpen is in his prime in these years. The whole band has a similar energy as they do in all of the years but the sound grows much more aggressive and fast during late 66 going through 68 into the early 70s. Enjoy the list, all of the shows can be found on archive.com. If anyone has any dates that they know of that I don’t have please let me know.

Agree with all that you said about that period. Here is the only soundboard I know that I don’t see on your extensive list.

It is a really cool show. Lots of ‘Caution-esque’ songs in a row.

Talk about The Grateful Dead!

My favorite songs by them are

Scarlet Begonias (Studio and the several hundred versions with Fire on The Mountain)

Casey Jones

Friend of The Devil

Ripple

Dark Star (Live/Dead)

Touch of Grey

and Uncle Johns Band just to name a few
