Not a song, but I’ve been on a Frank Zappa kick lately.

Nice. I gave Hot Rats a spin yesterday, my LP copy has an awesome pink disc, and of course the cover looks brilliant.

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I’m on Pink Floyd’s ‘Great Gig in the Sky’ at the moment.  I bought a Casio keyboard to give me something new to do during the lockdown.  I play the guitar a bit but that’s it.  I can’t read music and I only know where one note is (C) is on a keyboard!  ‘Chop Sticks’ was as far as I got on a piano 50 years ago when I was twelve.  I know it probably wasn’t the best tune for a beginner to start with but I am enjoying the challenge.  So far it’s going well and I have got to that bit where he says ‘Why should I be frightened of dying, there’s no reason for it’..

@Sugarplum fairy AWESOME paul-mccartney-thumb_gifpaul-mccartney-thumb_gifpaul-mccartney-thumb_gif

I used to play piano long ago, but I stopped and lost most of my skills and I still managed to teach myself this song… it’s not exactly beginner but I didn’t think it was super hard either. It’s mostly just the chord progression that is complicated, but it gets repetitive after Clare Torry’s vocal comes in so it’s just the intro really that’s tricky. It’s so worth it!

That exactly how I have found it. john-lennon-salute_gif I just get two or three chords sorted at a time (I printed out five or six little keyboards on a sheet of A4 and put dots on them as if it were a guitar!) The left hand does seem to mainly agree rhythm wise with the right so I haven’t found it too hard, it is just remembering all those shapes and making my fingers do them.   Lady Madonna next?  paul-mccartney-facepalm_gif

I thought it was one of those meanings where for some reason it’s a positive. Never understood why.

In England calling someone a beast is often a positive as it means very strong, powerful etc. In Scotland it has a very different connotation and is not what you want to be called. Always surprises me to hear an English footballer analyst say a player is such a beast as up here they’d get sued. Even trying to explain it is hard in my head.

there are several communities in America where nasty sick disgusting etc. are all positives. Baseball and Music are two of them in my experience.

Currently obsessed with the title track from Fiona Apple’s Extraordinary Machine. I love the minimal string arrangement and how playful the vocal part is.

I seem to be mildly obsessed with I’ll Get You . It keeps popping up in my head every few days, and today is one of those days.
