The expressions “I haven’t got a clue” and I have no idea” when the speaker probably does have a clue or an idea, but for some reason wants to project aggressive ignorance. I know, that’s not much of a peeve, but I hate to see people give up on themselves.

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Especially when they say, “I have no idea. Maybe it’s ______…” Ah-HA – so you DO have an idea!

Don’t know if this has been posted before (and really don’t care). People who keep sipping their drink through a straw when the drink is clearly finished. How good can Coca-Cola flavored air really taste? Just buy another one already.

People who roll down the windows of their cars and shout something derogatory at you. We had this happen yesterday, and I swear if I was younger, that little punk would have gotten the hell smacked out of him. I’m not lying, 10 or 15 years ago I would have yanked him out the passenger window and beat him down right then and there.

Do what I do Linde (I’ve posted this before). When someone says something like that reply with “That’s not a Beatles song, it’s a Beatle’s song.”

New pet peeve – that phrase going around on the net at the moment ‘The Feels’, as in something upsetting ‘really hit me in the feels’.  It has about as much real emotional impact as yolo or a Facebook ‘like’ and often (as so much in modern life or on the net nowadays) tends to reduce something genuinely emotional to the level of the latest news / sound bite.

Every time I hear or see it I feel like kicking someone in the feels.

I have used the odd one in the ‘listening to now’ thread but try to use them sparingly as I certainly agree that too many on the one page can be crazy.

I have a lot of movie pet peeves.  One of them is I get really annoyed when an actor/actress is crying in a hyperventilating way for a scene, turning on the waterworks, gasping and unable to clearly speak.  It just seems to laborious and distracting to the action — I mean, we get it, you’re portraying someone who’s supposed to be distraught, but do you have to painstakingly go through all the motions of it…?

In this regard, DeNiro once made an interesting observation that in real life, oftentimes a person who goes through a terrible loss or trauma tends to behave in a muted way, rather than in an exaggerated histrionic manner.  The challenge for the actor then would be to find a way to communicate the emotion in subtler ways…

I’m not sure how many sports fans we have here…
I am quite fed up with sports announcers’ misusing the term “unanswered points”. For those not familiar, the correct usage would be, “Team ‘X’ was losing by 10 points, but scored 14 unanswerd points to win the game”. Last Sunday, the morons at Fox Sports said this: “The Eagles scored 21 unanswered points and then the Rams scored 21 unanswered points of their own”.

@Zig I’m sure you know, but for those who do not know, it basically means one team scored those points without the other team scoring, thus when that one team scores and then scores again before the other team does, it’s considered “unanswered.” Only in American football (and in basketball) do you get this, you almost never hear “The Dodgers scored 6 unanswered runs on the Mets” when one talks baseball.

Thanks to the NFL’s constant mess and inability to self-govern and self-regulate as of late, the Eagles are 4-1 and I really can’t seem to get excited about it. I had to look up who the Eagles play next, whereas in the past I would have had the schedule memorized. (The Eagles actually next play a NBC Sunday nighter against the Giants, no less.)

Exactly – and that’s why, as soon as the Rams scored, the Eagles points were no longer unanswered. It seems petty, but it drives me nuts.

I’m in the same boat. Being a Vikings fan for most of my life, I was thoroughly disgusted by the mess Adrian Peterson put himself in. That was the last straw for me. I still love the game of football and will watch it whenever time permits. However, I no longer have a favorite team or player and will no longer spend any money on merchandise or going to games. It is actually liberating, because now I can just focus on the game and the strategy (my favorite part!!) and not give a damn who wins or loses. Very enjoyable.
