(did you at least like Paranoid Android? For me, that’s easily the best song since 1990, and it’s probably top 10 all time.)
Tell you the truth, I can’t even remember how it goes! Sorry, but little of that album made any impression on me whatsoever. (Aside from some interesting textures and studio effects, I mean.) No hooks, nothing managed to attach itself to my brain. Maybe I’ll give “In Rainbows” a try though, before I just write them off forever.

Now I know I’m going to be killed for saying this, but I find Led Zeppelin to be quite overrated. Of course I love Stairway To Heaven but other than that I just can’t get into their music. I tried watching this movie on Palladia that was a mix between a 1973 concert and some dreamscape type things and I just couldn’t get into the music at all. I really only watched it for Stairway to Heaven and I didn’t even stay awake that long.
Now, I find Stairway to Heaven to be on my list of overrated songs, but in my opinion the most overrated band is the Rolling Stones. All their songs are boring and simple. And my least favourite song of all time, Satisfaction, has an “amazing” riff that sounds like I dropped my guitar down the stairs.

You see, that’s actually my problem with Radiohead too. I’ve heard at least 20 of their songs and I can only remember what..3 or 4? It’s not bad, but just boring. I do want to be able to remember a song, instead of going completely blank in my mind when someone mentions a song I’ve heard multiple times.

OK, just for fun, I’m gonna go through the entire thread and see how many performers whom I like a lot (or even a little) have been called “overrated”!
Rush
Black Flag
Michael Jackson
The Doors
The Sex Pistols
Led Zeppelin
Rolling Stones
Yes
Bob Dylan
Nirvana
The Clash
Queen
The Carpenters (had some nice singles)
Kiss (first few albums are OK)
The Grateful Dead
Metallica
The Velvet Underground
AC/DC
The Beach Boys
The Sex Pistols
Pink Floyd
Lou Reed

Von Bontee – this is full of hooks and memorable songs. Turn it up.
Nickelback aren’t overrated because nobody likes them.

RE Radiohead, I think it was Ok Computer i listened to and found it to be an interesting enjoyable listen, haven’t found the time to get around to hearing any other albums of their’s tho Creep is a brilliant song.
As for the Stones i’ve never liked Satisfaction, bores me senseless and find the riff to be monotonous. Their output is so hit and miss in that either its fantastic or unlistenable garbage with no inbetween.

Hey now, this doesn’t sound too bad at all on first listening! (Well, hardly “listening” – just dragging the pointer across.) Crunchy guitars…hmm.
I’ll have to wait to get home to listen properly. (I do know I heard “Creep” once or twice 20 years ago)

Creep is a cool song, just listened to it today actually.
As for the Stones, I do agree with mmm. Except for the fact I do like Satisfaction. I do like it, but I hardly think of it as ”one of the best songs ever”, as it’s often been hailed as. When I look at the Stones, they do have some enjoyable songs, good songs. Unfortunately, the majority of what they’ve put out is crap. Especially after some point in the 70s. Also, there’s not one song in their catelogue of which I think ”woah. This is fantastic.” They don’t have a A Day In The Life , do you know what I mean?

I’m thinking that, and wondering if, the Stones got this massive boost creatively and energy-wise from the Beatles spliting (yeay! no more being second best i whatever we do etc) for those first few years and then it subsided as by the mid-70’s their output was pretty dire IMO. As said somewhere i got Grrrr (how i hate that title, so much more than NEW) and so much of the later stuff i find to be dross.

OK, I gave Dylan another listen with Tempest and Highway 61 Revisted this time. And I confirm I don’t like his music. Really, what is it that gets people to like him? He’s an excellent songwriter (as evidenced by how incredible the Hendrix and Green Day (seriously I’ve just set the Green Day one on repeat for hours in the past, along with their Working Class Hero ) versions of Like A Rolling Stone are, along with other covers). And he’s a solid if unspectacular guitarist.
But he can’t sing. He can’t sing at all. To me, his voice is almost torturous. Give his songs to a Hendrix or a Green Day, or hell, even a Metallica, any day, and I’ll love ’em cause it’s great writing. But dear god don’t let him near a microphone. It’s not only that his range is extremely limited, it’s that the voice is boring and drudgy, which really doesn’t work for long songs, which he likes to make. Or even short songs. Or any type of music whatsoever. I’d rather listen to a Jay-Z cover of Yesterday then listen to Like A Rolling Stone. This was named the best song of all time???? In what universe??? I’m not a huge fan of country/folk stuff, though I don’t hate it. But Bob Dylan is nowhere near the top 100 performers of all time, let alone number two.
Now, this may sound like a huge hate rant, which it kind of is. But, if you like Bob Dylan I won’t challenge you on it directly, this is just what I think, which is that he’s massively overrated. Anyway, if you like him, go right ahead. I felt like I needed to get this out there though. Bye.

I admire Dylan’s songwriting, but I too, feel that his voice is less-than-easy-on-the-ears. I have a “solution,” that I have gingerly brought up to Dylan fans. Most of them hate this idea, but a few Dylan fans have kind of begrudgingly agreed with me. I propose that his son Jacob Dylan should re-record his father’s songs. I really like Jacob Dylan’s singing voice, for instance on one of his few hits, “One Headlight.” I can imagine that husky, expressive voice singing his dad’s material, and just about very song would sound better.
I don’t know whether there is a “Dylan’s Bible” website, but if there is, I probably would not post this idea on the forum.

I disliked Dylan’s voice for a long time myself, too – even after I discovered Highway 61 Revisited and found I loved all the songs DESPITE the voice. (And that includes the great “Like A Rolling Stone”!) But eventually I got to appreciate the rhythm and the attitude and the humour in his yowling. It took some getting used to, that’s all. And as I bought more (eventually all) of his albums from the debut through Desire, I found that he basically changed his voice slightly every couple of albums (or even album-to-album) and I eventually learned that you don’t need to have a great voice (or even a good one) to be a great singer.
I’ve really disliked the way he’s sung since the ’80s, however. All the touring he did, he really destroyed his throat. That plus the smoking and drinking and just getting old.

Katy Perry I hear her songs all the time and I don’t think that her song Dark Horse was good enough to be on the top ten list

Is Katy Perry really highly rated? (Genuinely curious.)
Not really highly rated but it is just that her song Dark Horse is 3rd in the country when there are better songs that could be there
