I didn’t listen to the song; I just read the lyrics.
Well, at least it is fair and balanced. But, the potty mouth turns me off. I need to get some soap and wash their mouths out.

I don’t think it’s at all balanced. The message it seems to be giving is that he’s not racist because he knows people of colour, and those people are alright, but it is those others he doesn’t know that all get scooped up into being denigrated in the same way.
It’s kind of like a black person suggesting they don’t hate white people because they have white friends, and then suggesting the majority of white people could be members of the KKK.
Can I just add, this should have gone into the derail thread or the controversial topics thread, IMO. I think there’s too many threads being created at the moment that probably won’t make it to a second page.

I don’t see any balance, myself. Just someone excusing racism by saying their views can’t be racist because they know people from other ethnic groups.
Balance would be if he acknowledged the positive contribution made by 99% of ethnic groups to a healthy society instead of tarring anyone from certain racial groups that he doesn’t know with the same brush.

I think that’s the point, though. He’s making fun of people who are like that.

The lyrics say what some white person may think (1st half of the song) and what a black person may think (second half of the song). That’s what I see when I read the lyrics.

Beatlebug, Ahhh GirlI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.
