To my fellow American BB posters, have a safe and happy 4th of July!

To my new friends from other countries – have a nice weekend.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Doing anything fun? We're probably going to bbq and watch fireworks from the roof.

Ad hoc, ad loc, and quid pro quo! So little time! So much to know!

My wife will be riding in a horse show tomorrow on her horse, Independence. His birthday is tomorrow.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Thanks Skye – where in Phoenix do you watch your fireworks?

They usually have something at the Peoria Sports Center or Glendale Community College. You could go to Phoenix or Tempe, but who wants to deal with the traffic? a-hard-days-night-paul-3

Oh beautiful. for spacious skies…

I don't know what I'll be doing, probably what Americans do best: have a good time and watch stuff get blown up (fireworks). My girlfriends dad has a boat so maybe we'll get to cruise down the river and watch the fireworks in downtown Toledo. Although tonight I get to go to a Moody Blues concert so that should be a lot of fun.

I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine

Barbecuing on the roof sounds dangerous, skye!

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

We have neighbors who buy LOTS of fireworks for Independence Day and New Year's Eve. Also, for the 24th of July, since we live in Utah.

A favorite joke of my dad's to tell: Do they have the 4th of July in England? My brother: No! My dad: Of course they do! You wouldn't expect the calendar to go straight from the 3rd to the 5th, now, would you? a-hard-days-night-paul-11

If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.

That's a pretty clever joke!brian-epstein

I'd like to say "thank you" on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.

WHAAAAAT?! a-hard-days-night-ringo-6 Fun! Rock out (as in, slowly bob your head) to Nights in White Satin for meeee a-hard-days-night-george-9

Since it's going to be on a Sunday this year, everyone's celebrating on Saturday and Monday, so that'll be nice! My sister and I have an Independence Day tradition where I stick a Sparkler in her hair… oh, family. a-hard-days-night-ringo-10

Sunii, that's probably the best fourth of July celebration I've ever heard of. Have fun, all o'you! a-hard-days-night-george-7

I'm in love, but I'm lazy.

Imagine having a sparkler thrown in your pants….yeah, my friends are sweethearts.a-hard-days-night-paul-11

And no it really isn't the best celebration. An even better celebration would be tee-peeing and throwing fireworks at all the teachers' houses, but we are all wayyyy too chicken!a-hard-days-night-paul-2

As a (pretty freaking cool) teacher, I don't find that nice at all.  a-hard-days-night-john-7

I will probably be moping for the Fourth of July, working on my dissertation and wishing I were watching fireworks and/or hanging out in my best friend's pool.  One of my American friends here is supposed to be organizing a bbq in the park, funnily enough for international types who want to partake in an American tradition; if I can stop moping long enough, I might go and join him.

Mind you, when I'm in America in the fall I'll be moaning about wanting to have Bonfire Night.  Stupid dual nationality.

Do what you want to do, and go where you're going to…

MeanMrs.Mustard: naturally we don't celebrate losing our former colonies (joke!), but 4 July is my dad's birthday, and I'm at a wedding tomorrow so I'll raise a glass in all your directions. Have a good one, all.

Note: These are the kind you set off in your driveway, not the kind people usually think about. Sparklers, smoke balls, and those little balls of explosive that you throw on the ground and make a cool sound.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 Yeah, no. Just the poppers that throw lame clumps of confetti here. Luckily, we have cool neighbors and the cops have better things to worry about – it's just annoying.

Edit: Handy!
