Went to the cinema for the first time since February 2020.

‘King Kong v Godzilla’ – Aside from Kong looking wonderful the film is complete garbage. If you turned off your brain after accepting that the plot, acting and dialogue were always going to be inconsequential for such a film (seriously, I would be amazed if the script went thru a second draft), you’d still be insulted by the awful fight scenes between the two monsters. I was laughing at how bad the whole thing was. Watch a gorilla on the internet and save your existence from being questioned by yourself as you sit and watch this guff.

Finally did the opticians today. Two new pairs of glasses needed, distance and reading. I’ll get them after I get out of hospital. It’ll be nice to start not seeing the world as a total blur again.

As a massive fan of both King Kong and Godzilla since I was a small child, I’ve always felt obligated to watch all the Monsterverse movies, even though they are almost always disappointing. that being said, I was pleasantly surprised that this last one was…dare I say…better than the previous ones? As far as I was concerned, the previous films were all total trainwrecks, but this one had at least some redeeming qualities (as well as half-decent pacing for once). Of course, the original Kong and Godzilla films are two of my favorite movies of all time, and the original King Kong vs. Godzilla, for all its cheesiness, will always hold a very special place in my heart.

I haven’t seen the new one but I agree that these monster movies are one disappointment after another. I’ve wanted to see this one for a while but I haven’t gotten the chance.

I love those movies. Especially King Kong which is one of the best ever made.

I”m trying to figure out where I am getting chigger bites. I guess it has to be at the nature preserve because that is the only place I’ve been with lots of grass, even though I haven’t been walking in the grass much at all. These bites are so annoying. They don’t go away for several days.

The Euro’s finally get going later today as Scotland get their campaign up and running, the Tartan Army are arriving.

If you watch you may see me on the telly as I’ll be there getting pulled away by some official to get tested for the 17th time to ensure I haven’t developed any symptoms since I entered the stadium.

Four days of annual leave in (I have 18 in total) and as expected the tiredness from doing 45+ hours a week for almost a year comes to the surface but is slowly going. The days are filled with walking, sleeping, eating, drinking (no alcohol as I have a rule where I don’t drink it in my house), watching football and staying away from humans. I have the cinema booked for next Thursday and one or two days I will go somewhere but will see where. It’s bliss.

Y’all ever have a series of days that just leave you feeling so wiped out, your brain can barely function anymore? This past Sunday-Monday-Tuesday saw me getting up at ungodly hours every morning (and I’m not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination), first to go down to Southern Oregon with my brother to clear out my storage unit, then to move all my stuff to a different storage unit up here and being barely able to fit it all, then having to record a 20-minute presentation for my first ever academic conference, and then going up to Seattle (the first time I’ve flown since the big Rona) to get a bunch of medical procedures done that I’m still sore from. By Wednesday morning I couldn’t retain any numbers in my head–like, I couldn’t remember how much money I had in my bank account, or how much I owed my brother for helping me with the move. I’d check a number and then have to check again after a few seconds–and I’m generally pretty good at number retention. Add to all that getting into arguments with my girlfriend because she’s going through a rough time too and I am just not in a place to support her, which I feel bad about, but also what am I supposed to do? My emotional capacity is very limited when I’m stressed. All this to say that it’s been a week, and I need a break.

England v Scotland later tonight.

After deciding that playing slow negative football where our goalkeeper marks the centre circle when we have a corner kick was the way to go v Costa Rica, we go again.

I’ve actually been to the theater more times in 2020-2021 than ever in my life.  It’s very nice having the theater to yourself or nearly to yourself, so I go almost every week now.

Plus the movie studios didn’t bother releasing big budget blockbuster crap and there were a lot of standalone indieish films, so I didn’t have to suffer through Saw 20 or Fast and the Furious 12.

Yeah. It’s great to have it only a third full so you’re not surrounded by others, I have three films booked for Thursday so will be a day spent in the cinema. I’ll watch most things if they look reasonably interesting including the blockbusters (tho I refuse to watch musicals and romantic comedies/dramas), but most of the Hollywood must-see’s turn out to be very average. There was a film called ‘Land’ out a couple of weeks ago which I found far better than some of the far more promoted films that have been out. Having an Unlimited card means there is no risk of wasting money even if the film is utter garbage.

Got an email from UEFA this morning informing me tickets for the Scotland v Croatia game on Tuesday were available again so I am going again unless there is a U-turn by UEFA again. We have a chance to go thru if we win.

Scotland will qualify for the second round for the first time ever in a major tournament if we win, lose or draw and we are out. It will either be one of the greatest nights in our sporting history or one of the worst, there is no middle ground.
