I hate it when I wake up depressed for no reason and that stays throughout the day, even if I've been doing alright for the last few months

like, why

That happened to me a lot after my fiancee left.  It still happens occasionally.

Recently, I've been becoming rather depressed.

At my age, Covid wouldn't kill me, which makes it not too big of a deal for survival, but it is ruining the lots of fun things for me. It's also very threatening to loved ones, which is pretty damn scary.

But I've been hearing news about something called Ebola. I searched it up, and it's basically covid, but it will most likely kill you. Wow.

At 40 years of age, I still have a long life to live. But this is the age Lennon died at, so i'm quite nervous.

With the greatness of the Beatles and other music in the world, I don't want to die! Other things I love are Animal Crossing New Horizons (yup. I love that game), going to the mall to buy band tees at hot topic, and dogs!

I've really been wondering if heaven was real all along. What if when you die, the fun is over? You just... die. That's really depressing when you think about it, and with these goddamn viruses that can kill you, I don't know how I can make the most of my life. And people saying "you only live once" doesn't help. Is my one shot at existence going to end over something I can't control?

This is causing me to be scared and depressed. But if heaven is real, I might meet George Harrison there. Maybe not John, though... I don't know where he would go after death. I just really hope heaven is real, or you get reincarnated or something like that.

I've read it, and it's great!

And don't forget to vote blue jay way (and rocky raccoon) higher up on the 2021 Beatles song poll. If you don't wanna vote it, that's fine.

Such is the great question which philosophers, artists, and everyday Magills have wrestled with since time immemorial – all of us mortal souls, whose existences may end at any time. It's why Dylan Thomas wrote "Do not go gentle into that dark night" and it's why Beowulf chose to try and slay the dragon instead of fading away quietly – he chose a fighter's end, to go down swingin' as Tom Petty wrote about. It's something that George wrestled with most of his life, preparing himself to let go.

All I'm trying to say is, the answer is quite possibly yes, but you're certainly not alone in asking it, if that's any consolation. Hopefully the questions and answers that others have asked and found may help guide you to the answer that best works for you.

(Also, ebola is fairly hard to catch, as far as I'm aware, and I believe that there are vaccines either available or in development for it...)

Beatlebug sighed in relief
In my life: spring break, and god knows I need it. a-hard-days-night-george-4

Funny you should mention that @Beatlebug a-hard-days-night-george-9. We are in full winter into spring mode here with a yard full of birds chirping, trees in bloom, planted bulbs exploding, and the neighborhood kitties chasing each other around. Something I have noticed the last few years is my changing attitude toward the winter months. I used to pray for the sun and greenery and couldn't wait for spring and summer to arrive. Now I find a great appreciation for the fallow way as described in Judy's song. It's almost as if my thoughts are clearer.

I'll learn to love the fallow way
When winter draws the valley down
And stills the rivers in their storm
And freezes all the little brooks
Time when our steps slow to the song
Of falling flakes and crackling flames
When silver stars are high and still
Deep in the velvet of the night sky

Thanks, @Beatlebug, that helps a lot. I do believe that life is a great thing that everyone should make the most of. I'm glad Ebola is hard to catch, as I could get a vaccine before it goes nuts, if it ever does (I hope it doesn't). All I'm saying is I need a long life to do the things I love.

Yeah, I appreciate every season in its time. This winter has been unwontedly long and wet and this semester I have had an especially difficult workload. Finally the sun is shining and the daffodils are coming out and I can focus on getting some things done that aren't precalculus! a-hard-days-night-paul-7

Well, I’ll need to start looking for another job. I’ve been working for a member of parliament and they lost their seat in a landslide election here in WA. I can’t do anything about it. I’ll send out my resume soon for more jobs. I have good experience and references. If I can get to an interview I’m confident I can make a good impression. It is what it is.

That election has been amazing - I watched it last night. Biggest victory on the state level ever in Australia iirc.
