I’ve just been told that the project I run at work is being cancelled, and that there will be redundancies. No real details yet, but I’m told there’ll be a big announcement next week, and that the project probably won’t shut down straight away. It might be that I’m still here until the end of the financial year, or they might want a swift clear-out. Or I might get redeployed somewhere else in the company.

I’m hoping it’ll mean I can get a payoff and live my dream of becoming a full-time self-employed writer. I could finally finish and publish my book, write all the Paul and George album/song features I’d dearly love to work through, make the (lack of) news updates a little less of an embarrassment, add more images, videos and smileys, properly do The Beatles’ history between 1970 and the present day, and get better at promoting things on social media. I could do all that with a redundancy pay-off that meant not having to take paid work for over a year. This site has a lot of unrealised potential, but as I’ve said to the point of boring everyone, lack of time means it gets left from month to month with only minimal changes.

There are a lot of dots to cross and Is to T. If it comes to pass I could really ramp up the production here, maybe work up some other projects, and hopefully become self-sufficient with no boss! And, just as importantly, I’d be less of a stress-head and get to spend more time with my kids. Fingers are crossed…
