Plus one of their election briefs is that they will fight the SNP against another referendum when if anything more people here want another referendum because of the actions of the Conservatives after the first and the feeling that an opportunity was subsequently missed.

Now that’s interesting news to me. Please let it be against Cameron again and this time win.

The Republicans cannot seem to get a decent candidate to the fore who would have fresh ideas. Last 2 elections saw the GOP throw up (literally) John McCain and Mitt Romney, respectively. Really? And that, boys and girls is why we suffered through 8 year of Uncle Obama. The alternatives were worse.

*deep sigh*

It’s been with a mixture of horror and schadenfreude that I’ve watched this unfold in these primaries. Anything to take my mind off the pitiful state of my own country’s politics to be honest where we’re considering a double dissolution election and our dear politicians are outsourcing our internet metadata to private firms to spy on us in case we cheat on welfare.

Carly Fiorina “suspended” her campaign today and in her statement, in the very first paragraph, she claimed she was trying to save America from the political class with no sense of irony that she was a member herself. Against that kind of mental armor, no one in the world is safe. But I’m not sure getting Trump or Clinton’s going to stop the rot continuing anyway. The President is almost beside the point in the state that the Congress and Senate are in.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand the appeal. It stuns me to think about how gullible (stupid?) people really are.

Maybe their not stupid and there is an appeal that you nor I can’t see.

Trump has a habit of using songs without permission; he’s already done it with Adele and Taylor Swift (I think). He’s basically got the attitude of if you don’t ask they cant say no – which is a great thought when you image him as President making decisions on oil, wars, money and whatever else with other countries.

Another hand grenade thrown into the American political scene.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has died, one of the most prominent of the right wing judges on the Supreme Court.

The Republicans are already saying no new appointment should be made until after the Presidential election, which would leave his seat vacant for over a year, and the Democrats saying that would be unprecedented and that it’s Obama’s constitutional obligation to fill the seat as quickly as possible.

Nasty American politics are about to get nastier.

This years US Election comes across as even more petty, bitchy and childish than ever. Maybe i’ve just forgotten the time when Obama got in.

Obama’s election had it’s nasty parts, @meanmistermustard, but he was always going to win, the tide was on his side.

I think where Scalia’s death throws a hand grenade into this one, is that he was such an important right-wing judge, and the next appointment to the Supreme Court will keep it as it is, leaning to the right, or change it to a more liberal Supreme Court.

In many ways, as shown time and again because of the Washington deadlock, the Supreme Court is the most important body in American politics – because they rule what is constitutional or unconstitutional. The top of the American judicial system is very political. Judges are very definite political appointments, an attempt to get the judiciary to favour one political side or the other.

None of the Republican candidates will want to see him replaced with a judge that leans towards the Democrats, ending up with a Supreme Court that blocks them. This can’t not become an issue in the Presidential race, because it’s so rare you get a seat become available during the run-up to a Presidential election.

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds was referenced in an article about why young people like Bernie Sanders. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..03348.html

I guess the Beatles are so good even Trump likes them… The only part of Revolution that promotes whatever his message seems to be the part where John says, “Count me out–in”; some people might think that’s more of Hillary’s stance, though. I think we all know what the Beatles would think of Trump but more of a matter of what words they would choose to describe those thoughts.

Revolution should be our new national anthem. Or a theme song for when I become president in a parallel universe. Songs like that can really bring the American people together.

Wowee yes this is just about the worst possible thing to happen to the GOP right now apart from Trump himself. The only tactic open to them is deadlock, vetoing all Obama’s suggestions, in the middle of divisive primaries. I imagine there’s a few parties being thrown on the Democrats side, they’ve been waiting for Scalia to go for decades.

It’s not often that major cancer breakthroughs are made, but today it’s being reported that such a breakthrough has been made in relation to blood cancers.

It’s in its early stages of research at the moment, and there’s many years of research ahead, but results of early trials of re-engineering someone’s own T-cells (a type of white blood cell) to attack cancer cells, and to remember cancer cells need attacking, appear impressive.

Dr Stanley Riddell, of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, said:

In the laboratory and in clinical trials, we are seeing dramatic responses in patients with tumours that are resistant to conventional high-dose chemotherapy. These are in patients who have failed everything. Most of the patients in our trial would be projected to have two to five months to live. This is extraordinary. This is unprecedented in medicine, to be honest – to get response rates in this range in these very advanced patients.

We have a long way to go. The response is not always durable. Some of these patients do relapse, we are cognisant of that. But the early data is unprecedented. This is potentially paradigm-shifting in terms of how we treat them. I think this is a significant breakthrough, but we have a way to go. We have to understand how we bring it forward earlier into the treatment course of these diseases. We don’t want to wait until patients have failed everything else.

And if they can make further progress with this treatment for blood cancers, they can work out if it can be applied to other cancers. This may well prove to be the beginning of actually having a proper cure for cancer. A long way to go, but a major step.

Have a read of the article as I probably haven’t explained it too well.

Obviously a subject I’m interested in, and it shows why money for cancer research is so important. A huge thanks to @Joe for making this first Fab Forum February Fundraiser about cancer research. Hopefully, by the time some of our younger members have reached my age, cancer will have become something that’s reasonably easy to treat successfully.

If your US Presidential Campaign is going down the toilet is George W. Bush, the epitome of stupidity, the right person to wheel out to help – even if he is your brother?

Or has Jed’s team decided that since Trump is so popular in places that they will try and muscle in on the stupid vote.

And now for some economic news

https://www.youtube.com/watch?…..K9doTm8CH8

Good for me because I get good value for stuff that I buy up in Northern Ireland/online. Good for British exporters because more countries will want to buy goods off them. Good for British tourism.

Bad for Irish tourism, seeing as Brits make up a lot of our tourists. Bad for Irish exporters because importing goods seem less appealing.

This has been a Britney Spears Realist Party message.

Oh and UKIP still thinks that all of Ireland is in the UK….thank Christ ye didn’t vote those eejits in lads- they don’t know extremely basic geography.

Image Enlarger

Good news: I just saw a 93 year old man who only speaks Irish on the telly, he had what appeared to be his daughter translate for him.

:O THE MONOLINGUAL SPEAKER STILL EXISTS (for a little while yet). This makes me very happy, I thought they had all died off in the 80’s/early 90’s.

Sad and disappointing to see violence now seeping into the US Presidential Candidacy rallies but not that unsurprising, and now Obama has had to get involved. I fear that if Trump does win there is going to be a meltdown into further violence due what what he, and others, are saying.

And then you read this article and just want to get off this planet if Trump wins. One excerpt

What happened: Mr Trump had apparently been warned by his security staff that there could be someone in the audience with tomatoes.

What Mr Trump said: “”If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you?” Mr Trump told his supporters at the rally. “I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees.”
