There have been many news reports regarding Ring For The King events taking place in the UK on Saturday. With 40,000 church bells to be rung, that is a lot of volunteers. Is anybody going to be helping out this weekend?

Nah, and I’m not gonna wake up to watch at 3am either. (Especially when the cameras aren’t even allowed to film the best part, when English God Almighty anoints Charles with His divine presence! Or something.) I’ll wait a few years until the reenactment on Season 8 of “The Crown” haha.

I explained my sentimental fondness for Elizabeth on the RIP thread (a death I’ll now forever associate with that of my own mother, a fan of all things royal, one month later), but don’t much care about her relatives.

I do love love LOVE that teenage Charlie actually wrote, and sent by Royal Mail, a mock-indignant response to MAD Magazine’s repeated visual comparisons of his Royal self, to their jug-eared mascot Alfred E. Neuman! paul-mccartney (I don’t think I knew that MAD was ever a thing in the U.K. until seeing that brief AHDN bit of Shake reading a paperback version on the train.)

I don’t disagree with you VB, but if I was in the UK I would definitely be pulling on one of those ropes. (just like a-ringin’ a bell)

In the civil rape and defamation case brought against Donald Trump in New York by writer E Jean Carroll, while the jury did not find him guilty of rape, he has been found guilty of sexual assault and defamation. Carroll has been awarded $5 million in damages.

In his initial responses Trump is again shown to be misleading his followers.

Shortly before the verdict he claimed he had been silenced in the case, and not allowed to defend himself. A lie. The judge gagged him on making public statements about the case, not unusual at all in court cases, but bent over backwards to give him the chance to testify on his own behalf. He chose not to take the stand.

In a post since the verdict, he has said: “I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS. THIS VERDICT IS A DISGRACE – A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!” He also claimed to have no idea who she was in his deposition for the case, before going on to identify her in a photograph in the same deposition, as well as saying any sexual acts between them were consensual.

Possibly the reason that Trump didn’t want to take the stand, those contradictions in the deposition, and a fear of being cross-examined.

Hell! What a day for the (UK) Conservative Party!

First off, we knew former-PM Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list was to be published today. That was bound to cause a ripple if many of the rumours about who he’d award were true.

First sign of what was happening was the resignation of the deplorable Nadine Dorries as an MP, which we thought was because she was about to be elevated to the House of Lords.

When the list was published turned out she was her elevation to the Lords, the honours committee had blocked her.

Not that made the actual honours list was much more palatable when published, with it full of his cronies, many of whom had been found guilty of breaking lockdown rules.

But then Boris gets the report from the Parliamentary privileges committee — 4 Conservatives, 3 Labour — finding him guilty of misleading Parliament and resigned as an MP, claiming he had been, he’forced out.

BS! The worst that could have happened was, after a vote by the House of Commons, suspending him for more than 10 days, he would have faced a by-election. The only people who could have removed him were those who had voted for him in the first place.

His resignation just shows he doesn’t believe his voters in Uxbridge would have supported him again.

Not necessarily the end for him politically but good to see him out of any elected political office for the time being, and if he does want to be on the front line again, he’ll need to stand for election as an MP again.

I think Boris quitting is down to not willing to believe or admit he did anything wrong and, like Trump, will lash out wildly at anyone and anything which suggests he did. Clearly he mislead Parliament throughout lock-down (his performance at the inquiry when giving evidence was hilarious in its incompetence yet unbelievably depressing in how determined Boris was to maintain he did little wrong) but there is a clear belief in Government that they can do whatever the hell they want and sod the consequences. We, the public, should remembered our place and simply be happy for whatever we have, no matter how little it is.

The excuses and statements Boris’ supporters give are quite remarkable in just how lost in logic and reality they are.
