Scotland back in lockdown from tomorrow. Everyone is to stay inside their own homes and only leave if essential (exercise, work etc). Schools online until February at the earliest.
Boris and co expected to announce tougher restrictions for England at some point but no one knows when.

I believe England will be back in another total lockdown by the end of the week, if not sooner. Boris does like his bluster and delay though, just a shame that him not acting quickly enough leads to further deaths.
But it is just breaking that Boris will make a televised speech about the situation this evening at 8, and that Parliament is being recalled in Wednesday.

Offline Looking at the chatter since word of Boris’ speech tonight, along with Arlene Foster – First Minister in Northern Ireland, saying the heads of the UK governments will be meeting virtually to discuss a coordinated response, expect all parts of the UK (Scotland already has) to go into a full lockdown like we had last March.
Stay at home. Stop the spread. Protect the NHS.

Offline We got thru the first, we’ll get thru the second. The major positive is that vaccines are now getting rolled out, albeit slowly, so there is more hope of an end than last time, tho many are very tired of the restrictions with little to currently show for it.
I really like the tv advert, I think German, where the guy sat on his reminisced about having sat on his backside as to how they fought the war. I’d rather fight by eating pizza and watching shit on tv. Tho it helps that I’m quite happy not seeing a human being for days except for when I pick up milk and don’t crave people’s company that much.

Offline Just back from M&S.
England is back into a full lockdown during my absence.
Two bottles of Greenwich Winter Spiced Porter, to be followed by two bottles of Hiver honey blonde beer, closing out with two bottles of Cheshire Chocolate Porter, along with an M&S New York Deli Pastrami sandwich (which @Ahhh Girl knows is a wonderful sandwich) and an M&S Roast Beef & Horseradish Mayo sandwich. A layered prawn salad may come into play later as I pig out in honour of a new lockdown.

Offline Raphael Warnock has just become the first black senator for Georgia, defeating Republican incumbent Kelly Loefller. When he was born, the two senators for Georgia were both segregationists. An amazing moment for many people, not just in Georgia.
Jon Ossoff is looking nearly certain to defeat republican incumbent David Perdue in his run-off election as well, it just hasn’t been officially called yet. Ossoff will also make history, to become the youngest senator elected in 40 years, at just 33 years of age – and also the first Jewish senator from the Peach state.
And with both of these races going blue, not only has history been made in Georgia by seeing more blue than red, but also the democrats will have control of the congress and complete the government trifecta – meaning Joe Biden’s policies have a much better chance at being passed into law after he is inaugurated in 2 weeks.

Offline Ossoff’s race isn’t certain yet, but it’s on 98% reporting and and he has a 16,000 lead, so hopefully he can carry this through to Democratic control of the Senate, and finally the awful turtle man McConnell will no longer be able to block every decent piece of legislation that passes the House.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,

Offline Trump supporters have stormed the US Capitol building and halted the debate on Biden’s confirmation. While unconfirmed, there is talk of an armed standoff, someone having been shot, talk of pipe bombs. A very low moment for American democracy, encouraged by a corrupt President – who today even turned his attacks onto Mike Pence because he wouldn’t break the law.

Offline I thought Trump would eventually concede and his base would just move on to getting him elected in 2024 but it looks like i was wrong.
Don’t get me wrong, Biden is FAR from perfect but he won both the popular vote and the electoral college and staging a mini-coup in an attempt to overturn the results is in direct contradiction to our American belief in democracy.

Don’t get me wrong, Trump could definitely be doing a better job at handling this but there’s a difference between peacefully protesting outside of the Capitol building and storming it so i think it’s important to put the blame on the people who actually broke in as opposed to Trump himself.
