I was in France and as I was walking across the street I noticed a woman talking into a microphone for what seemed like the news.
So naturally I crossed the street and did a cart-wheel behind her I have been in regional newspapers and a speech that I did back in October was shown on the national broadcaster RTÉ but it wasn’t on the news

How many more times do folk have to be shot and killed or seriously injured in the US before folk in power get their arses into gear, say enough is enough and change the gun laws? Another bloody shooting.
“But its our right as Americans to bear arms”
Utter morons.
In other news there is an ongoing gun battle at Karachi international airport with 10 dead so far.

I’m hoping to hear from my relatives in Vegas soon.
I was hoping Sandy Hook would be a turning point, but to paraphrase one right-winger, lives don’t trump rights here, apparently.

There really are some sick scum in the world!
Last night/early hours of this morning, the memorial in Hyde Park to the victims of the 7/7 bombings was vandalised hours before commemoration ceremonies marking the 9th anniversary today, daubed with anti-war, anti-Blair slogans, and describing the bombers as “Four innocent Muslims”. I don’t care what your view is, you do not deface a memorial to the dead!
A clean-up is going on to try and remove all evidence of what waste-of-space individuals have done in time for today’s commemoration.
I hope those involved in the desecration are caught and have the heaviest possible charges made against them, and are given the heaviest possible sentences. I look forward to seeing the barstewards publicly shamed and jailed. The families and friends of the 52 lost that day should not have to put up with such garbage!

Just saw a Facebook post from David Sylvian that his frequent collaborator and another one of my favorite musicians, Ryuichi Sakamoto, has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
Such a shock. Mick Karn, the bassist of Japan (Sylvian’s former band) died of cancer in 2011, and that is one of the deaths, outside of family and friends, that still hits me the hardest. I wish Sakamoto all the best.

From the BBC – “A Malaysian airliner carrying 295 people has crashed in east Ukraine on a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, amid allegations it was shot down… Both the Ukrainian government and rebels have denied shooting it down in the region close to the Russian border.” Over 100 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage so far.
Its the third plane shot down in the last few days after two Ukrainian militairy planes were shot down, believed to have been by Pro-Russian separatists.
Not much you can really say except thoughts have to go out to the families of those on board. Horrible horrible news.

Yes it is terrible. There were also Dutch people in there. My condolences go to the friends and family of the passengers (and crew).
Edit: Gosh I hate it when my avatar doesn’t suit the mood. But I don’t want to change it…

It did leave from Schiphol.
For a moment I was seriously scared that my friend was in that plane. I knew she was going to Malaysia around this time and she would leave from Schiphol, that was a rather frightening thought. So, I went to check her house and I saw her bike standing outside, so I knew she hadn’t left yet.

Apparently 154 of the passengers were Dutch, and I just read on Facebook that one of them is from my town and was pretty young, wonder if I knew her.
What a relief that your friend is okay!
The Ukrains (?) shot a Russian rocket to shoot a plane down, but say Kiev is to blame. I don’t think this was an accident, they simply shot the wrong plane down. They just said it too, can’t be an accident. If you don’t know the system, you can’t operate the rocket. It’s not a question of accidentally pushing a button, you need to be educated in order to operate it. Sorry for my badly phrased stuff, am typing this as the news is on.

Really awful news – I hope no one here has lost anyone close – 28 Australians on board as well.

@thisbirdhasflown, at the bottom of parlance’s link immediately above this post there is a tweet from Obama confirming that one American was on board. And if anyone hasnt seen the update in that article the number of AIDS researchers on board the plane is thought to be much less than the 108 originally said to be on the plane with it currently being reporting that seven of them have so far been named.
