No, @Magill. I’ve only just voted. Voting should be open until midnight Chicago/America timezone, as that’s the forum timezone, and even then there’s often a few hours leeway depending on who’s doing it.

Offline If people vote a little late it’s cool. There is no definitive closing time as it’s a worldwide forum which doesn’t operate on a one time for everyone schedule.

Offline I would like to vote but I would just be voting based on my perceptions of the forum 3 years ago.
There’s not enough activity here for me to actually follow a discussion anymore. I don’t subscribe to threads. I just pop in randomly and give my 2 cents occasionally.

The discord is a Beatles coronavirus discord where some members talk about anything really. Discord is like if ATN actually let you post non Beatles content.
And more people would be on here if Joe wasn’t so restrictive. I don’t feel comfortable making threads here since even Beatles related ones get locked. That is probably why I’m less active.

Offline Mmm, yeah, I can see how the “In My Life ” and “Impossible To Derail” threads, among others, make it really difficult to post about non-Beatles related things on a Beatles forum. So very restrictive.
Struggling to think of too many locked Beatles’ threads.
Somehow I always manage to find a thread here that I can post anything I want to say in.
Myself, had I jumped in to run the poll when it looked like the poll wasn’t happening, I’d have limited voting to active members of the forum rather than spectators. Lucky that mmm and Holey jumped into the breach instead.

Derail is a single thread so that restricts what can be talked about when. If multiple topics are going at once. They get lost in the wasteland.

Offline There are plenty of ways to discuss things but as has been said before: this is a Beatles forum, why come here to discuss the latest episode of ‘Georgie Shore’? However there are places to do so. We’re clearly not going to want a nine page discussion on what Pete said to Louise about Jeff and Nicola’s cheetah eating Dora’s monkey tho.
As for the thread you highlighted, I don’t think it takes a genius to see a) it’s barely if at all Beatles related (sticking Beatles in a sentence does not make it Beatles related), and b) why it got locked.
I’m sorry if this forum is currently less active but I will certainly not be on the side of it being less Beatles centred and make no apologies for that.

Ah yes, two threads is enough to cover every non-Beatles topic in the world!

Some of us are not so lucky. For instance, Starr Shine tried to start a forum-focused game for people to play and you jumped in and shut it down because it wasn’t strictly Beatles-centered.
Myself, had I jumped in to run the poll when it looked like the poll wasn’t happening, I’d have limited voting to active members of the forum rather than spectators. Lucky that mmm and Holey jumped into the breach instead.
Curious– how do you define an active member? A member that hasn’t posted in over a month? A member that posts less than five times a year? A member who is part of the Discord and disagrees with you about what categories should be included? Very lucky indeed, I think.

Because , as Ex Tex pointed out, this is meant to be a community. When our conversations are restricted to Beatles-related things, that sense of community becomes harder to maintain. I still love the Beatles, obviously, but my active interest in them has faded and I no longer want to talk about the Beatles five times a day. However, I also don’t want the friendships I’ve built on here to dissolve. I still want to talk to my friends, just not always about the Beatles. On the Discord, I can do that. On here… not so much.

It was as Beatles related as a what if? It is about exploring another universe with the Beatles. I also ran other text based adventures and games that were around the same level of Beatles related that didn’t get locked.
So I ask, what about it isn’t Beatles related enough for it to get locked when other such threads remain unlocked?
I’m must be less than a genius since I can’t see why it was locked.

Offline The issue was that for a period of time ATU completely overwhelmed the Beatles part of the forum; you’d come on the forum and there would be one Beatle topic and 19 non-Beatles threads on the drop-down menu. There had to be a recentering of the forum as it was becoming Beatles+, and at times heading towards anything but Beatles.
I have no desire to kill the community side of the forum but it seems people forget this is a Beatles website, it’s not Kiss, Horrible Histories or whatever else. I’m all in favour of there being balance and encouraging the community vibe but not to the detriment of and reason for the forum and why Joe created it. Something had to be done.
If people have any suggestions for new ATU threads, PM Joe or the mods. Nobody has that I know of. If the reason for not is “what’s the point?” then that’s on the person and not us. We will listen and consider it. But if the thread is ‘Do you love Westlife as much as I do?’ then surely people can see why it wouldn’t be approved.

This is quite fair. And this is also why many of us have, in a sense, relocated to the Discord. Yet certain Forumpudlians (not you) seem to take this as a personal affront.

Offline I’ll make the position clear.
If anyone has any suggestions for threads for ATU that they would like that and would improve or maintain the forum community then contact a mod or Joe. We are open to discussion. Just remember it is first and foremost a Beatles forum.

To be fair, I wouldn’t have gone so it makes little difference.
Having to watch ‘GMRTB’ is a big enough incentive to not get involved.

Offline Strange how some find “personal affront” being taken when merely disappointment that they are longer active Forumpudlians has been expressed, along with an recognition that they choose to talk elsewhere, and that their choice not to post here as often as they did has had an effect on the forum.
As clearly shown, some who are part of the Discord are still active Forumpudlians, others have chosen not to be, but it seems there’s something wrong with noticing their absence and regretting it.
