I never campaign or lobby for awards.
I’m just always grateful when somebody remembers me and thinks I’ve made a useful contribution to life on this Fab Forum and decides to pick me for something.
Which doesn’t seem to stop me getting the Best on Beatles History or whatever it’s called every year since we restarted the awards, along with occasional Most Helpful When a Question is Asked, and the News one since our resident newshound, parlance, became a rare visitor to the forum (my three biggies this year being breaking the news of the Deluxe White and Imagine releases and Roag Best’s new Beatles museum on Mathew Street).

Question: when most people talk about “pet birds” they mean parakeets and cockatiels and small colorful birds like that. Do chickens count as “pet birds?”

Offline Hate to rain on everybody’s parade regarding nicknames, and perhaps @Starr Shine? could confirm this for me, or let me know I’ve got it wrong all these years, but it isn’t referring to the shortened versions of our usernames that are mainly thought up by others because they can’t be arsed to keep typing out the full username, but to the username we come up with for ourselves on the forum.
Our usernames are nicknames we give ourselves because there are very few of us who use our real names on the forum. It is included in the poll alongside avatar and signature, both of which we create ourselves. If it is not intended to mean the username created by the member for themselves then why is there no category for username alongside avatar and signature? If it is intended for the shorthand versions invented by others so as not to have to keep typing out the long version, why does the award go to the person who has been given the nickname rather than the person who created it?
My nickname, given to me by me, when I joined the forum was mja6758, which other users often shortened to mja; I then changed it to Ron Nasty, as that fitted with my avatar and signature, which is generally shortened to RN when others refer to me or Roncyclopaedia.
Nicknames refers to our usernames, and not the shortened versions made up by others to not have to keep typing out the full username every time we want to mention another user.
