Re: the origin of “bluegrass”
Kentucky is the Bluegrass state. https://statesymbolsusa.org/sy…..rass-state
Bill Monroe was born and raised in Kentucky. Makes sense that his band would be the Blue Grass Boys . http://bluegrassheritage.org/h…..ass-music/
I like country songs with clever lyrics and story songs. I like many of Brad Paisley songs such as this one that mentions The Beatles…
Kenny Chesney has some good songs.

I used to listen to a lot more country music, but now when I revisit some of it, I don’t like it.

Truth.
SG, would the guitar part(s) on that Brad Paisley song be hard or easy to learn?

Oh, well, with a question like that…
The lyrics are not too bad. As for the guitar parts, it depends on your skill level, but the song’s pretty fast-paced so I’d say intermediate-hard. I’d have a hard time with it because I suck at fast runs.

Found this little gem on youtube, a homage to Emmylou Harris:

My first encounter with country music was listening to Monkee Michael Nesmith’s excellent albums with The First National Band out of curiosity about two years ago. Nez’s creative way with words and Red Rhodes’ pedal steel guitar across those works completely flipped my world over and made me realise country music is not all a cornball genre (keep in mind, I was 14/15 here ). A few months later, I got into the music of both Hank Williams Sr. and Jr. and from them, discovered guys like The Everly Brothers, Glen Campbell, Conway Twitty, Marty Robbins, Ernest Tubb, Johnny Cash, The Carter Family, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and Johnny Bush – although I’d say I’m only a casual fan of all these. My favourite part of the journey, however, was during my month long hiatus from the forum last summer, going on a listening spree of country-rock/folk-rock and discovering The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, Manassas, Emmylou Harris (meanmistermustard will be proud ), The Eagles and countless others. I’m open for a discussion on these artists or suggestions if any of you are nerdy enough like me to understand this post…
And on a bonus note, as I’ve said a few times before, Beacoups of Blues is my favourite Ringo solo album!

I haven’t seen that, but from what I’ve heard, a lot of those artists I listed are brought up at some point and it reignited interest in some of them for people I’ve talked to. But yeah, I need to check it out for myself.

I loved it. It has a more liberal take on country music than you’re going to find on just about anywhere. That’s not a bad thing. Some artists are way underrepresented but those that are generally deserving.
If you’re familiar with any of Burn’s other large scale docs you’ll know that he usually has a couple of commentators that have a lot of screen time. Here that is Marty Stuart and Rosanne Cash.
Watch it ASAP.

It’s a bit sad to discover John Prine just when he died: I’ve been listening to a lot of his stuff today and he’s quite Dylanesque but funnier. He’s also a great bluegrass picker. It’s really hard to sum him up as a songwriter because there’s so much and its so deep but I’m going to learn a lot and I wish I’d heard of him sooner.

Today’s contemporary country music is, how can I put it with the help of a Mulaney gif moment?
Ah yes…here we are:
However, I do love me some classic country and country-rock But, as I stated previously with the help of one Mr. Mulaney: today’s country music is absolute garbage and every song is basically the same (I’m positive there are minor exceptions to this rule, but I just haven’t found them yet…..)
