I was recently talking to my nephew, who was born in 1977, and he asked me this. You see, my nephew likes Metallica, but he didn’t get into them until the And Justice For All album, which although is there first successful album by the band (first in the top 10, first with a song that has a music video, and first with a charting single), there was 3.5 albums (3 and an EP) released before it. He asked me if he was a 1st gen or 2nd gen fan and I said he was a 1st gen fan, as he still liked them while they were in their heyday, but I’d like to see what you have to say. Also, this can go for multiple bands, such as someone who got into Queen during their News Of The World album or someone who got into The Beatles with the Yellow Submarine movie.

I think they would be a 3.5 generation fan cause it was 3.5 albums.

I consider a first gen fan to be born early enough to be a fan of the Beatles while they were still a band. If you were born after that you’re a second gen fan. There’s nothing wrong with being a first or second gen fan because you kinda can’t control it.

We have two threads on this already, we don’t need three.
To continue the discussion go to either
Where do you draw the line between 1st gen and 2nd gen Beatles fan
or
Do you wish you were a 1st generation fan
Thanks.

I’ve just now had a proper look at this thread. Sorry it took me so long.
Let’s use this thread for groups other than The Beatles. To discuss how to classify generations of Beatles fans, use https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..atles-fan/
I will modify the topic title a bit to clarify the purpose of this thread. I hope that is ok, @sgtpepper63. If not, please let me know.

Although little children can be a fan of things aimed at people 10 and older, would it really be worth my time calling someone born in 1974 a 1st gen Queen fan because they liked We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions when they were 3. Queen isn’t like The Beatles where there were a lot of 2 year olds listening to their music and they didn’t have a TV show or Animated movie. The films Queen had were not as childish. Although you can say that Flash Gordon is a kids movie, you’d have to stupid as hell to call The Highlander a kids movie because there’s intense violence with gore included and they use words like f**k and s**t, so it ain’t no Power Rangers or Ninja Turtles in that regard. Also, with 1970 as the last eligible year to be a 1st gen fan, that means that you can be a child fan of Queen (or AC/DC, as I draw the same lines for both bands), as if you were born in 1970, you would’ve been 4 when their 1st hit, Killer Queen, came out and you would be just old enough to remember it. Also, which band looks and sounds more childish:

Honestly I’m over this whole “generation” junk. A fan of a band is a fan of a band. *shrug*

I’m changing my stance on Queen. I now think that 1970 is the last eligible year to be a 1st gen fan of Queen, as unlike a band like The Beatles or The Jackson 5, Queen was not aiming their music at children in any way.
I think you forgot that Queen lasted until 1991, so saying 1970 is really pushing it. I’d say 1977 is the last eligible year, as that’s the year We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions came out.

Lasted until 1991? I think Queen are still out there doing their thing. Minus Freddie, of course, but Adam Lambert has been pretty fantastic, actually!
I’ve enjoyed Queen since I was in about sixth grade, still do for the most part. Though Brian is taking some time away to deal with a “persistent illness”… I hope he’s alright. He had some Candelight Concert dates with Kerry Ellis scheduled in the UK in December that have now been cancelled.

You can’t have Queen without Freddie Mercury, it’s like having AC/DC without Angus Young or The Jimi Hendrix Experience without Jimi Hendrix. Sure, there was Paul Rogers and Adam Lambert who tried, but Freddie Mercury is irreplaceable with his impressive voice that can go higher than most people. Also, any Queen material released after 1991 sucks balls, Made In Heaven and The Cosmos Rocks are terrible albums and shouldn’t have the same name on them that such classics like Sheer Heart Attack, A Night At The Opera, A Day At The Races, News Of The World, Jazz, Live Killers, The Game and Flash Gordon. Also, it’s kind of funny that out of all the people, they chose Adam Lambert, who looks more like a member of NSync than someone who is into 70’s rock, to front a 70’s Hard Rock band. Let’s see who’s better, shall we:

You’re opinion of the material doesn’t change the fact that queen is still around
First gen fans are fans when the band or artist is still going so every queen fan is first gen.

In their heyday. In the case of Queen, their heyday was from 1974 to 1981. I wouldn’t call someone born in 2004 a 1st gen Queen fan in the same way I wouldn’t call someone born in 1990 a 1st gen Beach Boys fan.
