(My own ranking, which was never asked for, would have had “1999” much, much higher. And “Delirious” far lower, because that one is truly the “Dizzy Miss Lizzy ” of the Prince/Revolution catalog! blue-meanie).

I can see that for some people. Although for some reason i always like Dizzy Miss Lizzy . But it’s understandable

I feel like since I am back posting regularly on here, I might as well revive this thread.

Anything new you’ve discovered about the lovely Purple one? Any new favorite songs?

I will say for me, I’ve been enjoying the hell out of the new 1999 Super Deluxe Box Set as well as Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic

Nice to see another big Prince fan on the Fab Forum!

Spun Sign o’ the Times the other night. Only reissue I bought after he passed away (I managed to find all his albums from the s/t to Parade used beforehand), and probably my favourite of his (it’s between that and 1999 for me).

Sign O’ The Times is one of his truly great ones! I don’t often listen to it in full but when I do it is always satisfying. Starfish and Coffee is one of my all-time favorites

I always found SOOT a bit overpraised myself; weirdly, I don’t think that one was ever manufactured in Canada. Every copy of the CD I’ve ever seen here is a U.S. import and sells for a coupla bucks higher.

I think I may have to binge-listen to the full discography once I’m done with Stevie’s! I’ve heard so little Prince music post-“Emancipation” john-lennon-salute_gif

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I agree, almost all of his albums Pre-Diamonds and Pearls need a good remix. There are rumors in the Prince Sphere that Parade will be the next one

My Personal favorite of Post-Emancipation is Musicology

I’ve never even heard that one, and it was big comeback! (Mightve heard “Most Beautiful Girl…” a few times, maybe…)

I’ve been getting quite into Prince lately. I’d been meaning to ever since I read Miles Davis’ autobiography and heard him wax eloquence about the Purple One’s music, but I’ve only recently gotten round to giving it a try. I’m currently mostly just listening to his most popular songs, but I’ve given Purple Rain a couple of listens in its entirety, as I have with Controversy, which I listened to a few times last year. My favourite song so far is ‘Raspberry Beret’, it’s so damn catchy and the backing vocals are to die for.

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

@QuarryMan give 1999 (the album) a spin too. It’s got some of my favourites and some of his best bass-playing (oh yes, he plays the bass) for instance Lady Cab Driver.  He was taking those same drum machines being used for house and putting them in the service of funky dance and it’s still fresh even now.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll give it a listen. After that I think I’ll go for Sign o the Times

Black album not on spotify 🙁

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I think under the Sony Legacy deal I think it’ll be added in 2021 if everything goes as planned
