Unfortunately for me I have just ‘discovered’ Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins .  I have no idea what to say except to recall a review I read which said (with snide reference to John’s private parts) “such a big fuss over such a small thing”.

The back cover has a quote from Genesis: “And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed”.  Well, perhaps they should not have been ashamed of the nudity, but they sure should have been ashamed about foisting such a boring 30 minutes or so on an unsuspecting public.  Sorry all you arty types out there – it’s just plain dull.

Been listening to a collection of 1960’s Girl Group songs that are relatively unknown and obscure, as is nearly always the case with any compilation album its a very mixed bag careering from the very good to the why on earth was this ever recorded?.

Included amongst the tracks is a response to the classic 60’s song called Runaround Sue by Dion; it’s called I’m No Runaround and was recorded by Ginger Davis and The Snaps. Never knew there was a response so thats a pretty cool discovery.

Sorry, I didn’t see this until now.

Nah, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. My favorite DS Pokemon game set. Still don’t have or yet.

Woah. my brain flipped over to another thread for a split second, and I began wondering if we were talking about trcanberra’s bother’s friend and his wife’s sister.

Never heard it, not sure I want to… and I have a high threshhold for pain.

As for the nudity, well… Sissy Spacek (as Rainbo) had a humorous lyric about it in “John (You’ve Gone Too Far This Time)” that probably sums up how a lot of Beatle fans felt about it.

"There's no such thing as bad student... only bad teacher."

Recently heard a few Florence + The Machine tracks which were good so got the ‘Lungs’ and ‘Ceremonials’ albums to listen to.

As mentioned elsewhere i got Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ album for ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Style’. Those are the best songs on the album but its a decent listen, nothing to get uber-excited about but its also not something to reach the off-switch for.

And on a whim picked up Paramore’s self-titled 4th album.

All stuff to listen to when out walking or doing job applications.

Two Virgins ‘ I knew was rubbish…….I’d already tried and failed with Rev 9 so I never considered shelling out my paper-round money on it……

But…..’Wonderwall’ early (‘Zapple’ I think) I knew was George with a great band including Clapton alongside him. I found it, picked it up looked at the cover, put it back pondered and put it back……I think I did this on 3 or four occasions. Never did buy it. I bought ‘…Big Pink’ by the Band instead.

I’ve just seen that the film is available on my Android TV box so I shall have a look and listen.

As for new music? I don’t think we are talking about new albums from established stars but new contemporary artists. I’m ashamed to admit that my last discovery was Keith Urban about 10 years ago……..before he was established if that counts.

Otherwise all I do is discover old timers like Lonnie Johnson’s ‘Too late to Cry’ What a composed singer!!

Not a new band at all and really nothing beatleesque, just discovered them recently ‘Red crayola’… from the 60’s. Just listened to their first two albums, being the second one my favourite… Love their naive and carfree stuff… and the way they just don’t take themselves too seriously

I hope you give the soundtrack a go @Wigwam , I personally found it more enjoyable than I was expecting.

MMM, I love Florence!

Checked out some stuff of Blur’s new album the other day. Thought it was a bit meh tbh. It’s not bad, but there’s not much on it of which I think ”yeah, I will still listen to that in 5 years” or even next year.

Have been listening to Blondie on my iPod and it’s been enjoyable. I was put off for years by ‘Maria’, which I still cannot stand, but there is some fine material out there.

New to me: Chromatics. Heard them on the Twin Peaks soundtrack and then bought one of their albums.

I saw Everclear last night and they were amazing. I had of them and knew some songs but I was never a massive fan but I went with a friend and I was impressed by them and will listen to them more now.

I guess it is not exactly discovery but I have a new respect for them now.

And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

Well, in the last months, I’ve discovered the full canons of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones!beatlemaniacs_02_gif

Apart from that, I’ve recently discovered Melted by Ty Segall, which I find an incredible album, it’s so wild and crazy! Additionally, I learnt to love Bebop quite a lot, just yesterday I listened to the Memorial Album by Clifford Brown. What a genius this man is! It’s such a pity he died so young.

Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's

There’s a guy on Soundcloud who is unsigned but I really love his songs and if I had my own record company I’d sign him. They’re quite lowfi but I think he gets a great sound and has some great harmonies.
