I’ll throw in a couple.

If you have any fond memories of early-70s Southern roots rock, you could do worse than Alabama Shakes.

And here is something so insane, I had to share it.  The band is Darwin Deez.  This video is made up entirely of commercial stock footage, and the song has one of the more unusual structures I’ve heard in a while:

The video is awesome, but I don’t really like the song itself that much. It’s not a bad song though, the structure just bothers me I guess

I just discovered The Lumineers!  So folky and raw and wonderful!  Just bought their album (first and only so far) at Chapters on my way home.  Some people may know this one, which is a single:

a-hard-days-night-john-1

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 Love that song. It’s kind of special to me… but I don’t feel like saying why. blue-meanie

Also known as Egg-Rock, Egg-Roll, E-George, Eggy, Ravioli, Eggroll Eggrolli...

That’s soo weird. When I saw that someone had posted here, I thought I could mention that I heard a song a few days ago, which I love, by a band called The Lumineers! And then I see their name on here! :D

The album is so good!  I listened to it like 3 times last night!  a-hard-days-night-john-1

I’ve only heard a few songs but I quite like what I have heard. I think I’ll give the album a listen once I’ve got a few exams out of the way. This must be the first band I like from the last 10 years I’ve come across since ”converting” musically.

I’ve been listening  to this artist Jaymay for a bit now, I love her voice and her lyrics :D And here’s “Song for Paul” not our Paul but still a-hard-days-night-paul-8 and she’s a massive Dylan fan :P

I’ve just re-discovered a singer who’s first album I listened to non-stop 2 years ago, or something like that. Caro Emerald, her name is, she does lots of Jazz and Swing type songs, which I like. Can’t believe I ever forgot about her. Linde – you probably know her because she’s Dutch. Apparently she released her 2nd album a month or two ago so I’m looking forward to listening to that.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 Ah, no sound on the computer. Thanks for thinking of me anyway. Do you know what she says?

Oh, her.

She says it’s the biggest achievement she has made and that it was a DIY project. She only had 2 producers and did the vocals for the first album in her livingroom. After recording they went to see some recordlabels, but as they didn’t have good deals in their opinion, they decided to start their own. She says it’s very stressful, but she just has to trust her people.

It’s not a very interesting interview.

I know Caro Emerald, she’s one of our biggest stars at the moment. I’ve seen her perform live once, during Serious Request. I’m not too crazy about her music. I don’t hate it but I don’t necessarily need it on my iPod either. I don’t like HER for some reason. During her performance I was super annoyed by her and I can’t even remember why.

Good for her that she has success abroad though.

To be honest, I don’t think she is really successful here. Obviously, getting to no1 is pretty amazing but it’s not like she’s BIG big. I found out about her online, I think.

I haven’t seen any interviews or anything like that so I don’t really know what she’s like as a person, and therefore have no opinion of her in that respect.

Amazing whippersnapper — only in his 20s, and already breathing new fire and life into the traditional jazz scene:

The Black Lips are pretty cool if you’re into flower punk, garage rock. Also in real life I think they’re a funny foursome. The faint of heart and those afraid of the politically incorrect beware.

Recently James Taylor, Donovan, Eric Clapton, REM (not new as in new but as in knew of  but not listened to before). A library card is a wonderful thing as it lets you hear artists you otherwise just never get around to. Also got Johnny Cash’s American Recording series 1 – 5 and 6 has been requested.

If you’re enjoying the American Recordings mmm, ask if they have Unearthed. All from the same sessions – three discs of outtakes, a gospel album, and a best of. Total and utter genius.

Also, if you haven’t seen it –

Possibly the best video ever, both he and June would be dead within a year… No more poignant farewell…

I have had my eye on Unearthed for ages but I very doubt much a request would be a success. Hurt is a fantastic, haunting track.
