@Beatlebug, he did say not to call Michigan

And please don’t say for someone to ‘see someone’. That’s kinda rude and offensive. Sure you may disagree but there is no reason to go to that level.

I had this conversation with someone from Michigan who was Trump voting conservative. They argued about governors stock piling supplies then blaming the government for the shortages. I may not agree with their arguments but they were respectfully given and didn’t downplay my emotions on the issue.

I was worried that because of quarantine, I wouldn’t be able to have the appointment with my clinic’s psychiatric PA about medication options, but luckily that’s all been sorted out and next week I’ll be able to talk to her via video call. The only thing that’s stressing me out about this is that I won’t have any privacy during the virtual appointment due to me being in a small house with my family, but I’m trying to assuage that fear by just focusing on the positive fact that at least I’ll have an appointment in the first place. paul-mccartney-thumb_gif

Yeah, I have a deck I guess I could sit at (given that we have nice weather on that day). I also have AirPods that I plan to use. Thanks, Fiddy!

No, I don’t need to “see someone” and I have a friend in Michigan who says the news is true.

With all due respect to your friend, I still wouldn’t see that as cause for a panic attack, but perhaps I’m overly stoic or apathetic.

Should have known better than to share here.

I’m sorry you feel that way. We try to keep this Forum a welcoming place where you can share anything you want. I know I can be little rough around the edges sometimes and people often find my attempts at tough love more tough than loving, but I only meant the best by my post. If you had stress reactions or thought patterns that were affecting your ability to stay calm and rational even under situations as scary as this one, then I would genuinely wish you the best in combating those issues. In your post, you sounded pretty stressed, and I don’t want anyone to be overly stressed. That Is All. apple01

Likewise I’m also concerned for you that sick people without access to medical supplies because a vengeful narcissist is withholding them is not a source of anxiety for you. Maybe life will make you more compassionate someday.

I was out at a supermarket this evening after taking out the bins at my Granddad’s. I haven’t been in the supermarket for about a week and everything has changed. I started getting dirty looks as I was walking past people and realised I was walking through the queue- which although it had only 7 people in it, was now about 20 metres long.

Oops, sorry a-hard-days-night-paul-10.

I now have about 30 packets of crisps which should last me a good while, hopefully after the peak has past. The addiction to salt is a serious problem.

Oh well, I am a happy camper now.

…So?

Why is this newsworthy? a-hard-days-night-ringo-11

And please don’t say for someone to ‘see someone’. That’s kinda rude and offensive.

Oh, okay, noted. In future, I’ll just tell people “You’re absolutely barmy if you’re having such a visceral freakout over something as insubstantial as a politician’s claim” and I won’t even bother to suggest they try to find some way of bettering their mental health (whether through official therapy, a religious/spiritual figure, God , or just talking it out with someone you know who might be able to help you put things in perspective).

If you think this is about a political disagreement, you’re not reading my post. I never downplayed anyone’s emotions or accused anyone of being crazy because I disagree with them. I simply thought ExTex’s reaction to the news was disproportionate to the actual story, which I understand to be a “he said, she said” type of situation, and it prompted my concern for his mental health because I understand that these are difficult, stressful, scary, lonely times for many people and it behooves us all to be checking up on the people we care about.

mccartney-shrug_01_gif

I am not sure where you got the impression that I believe that and don’t care. I simply don’t think that Trump is a vengeful narcissist or is withholding medical supplies from sick people. To the best of my knowledge, President Trump merely said that he wanted governors to try and get supplies themselves if they could, and that he’d back them up if he couldn’t. The Fed can only do so much, you know. I didn’t think that sounded unreasonable in and of itself — what actions are actually taken remains to be seen, and I’ll be optimistic until I see evidence sufficient to convince me I should be otherwise. One has to be, in these times, to avoid despair altogether.

Anyway, there’s only so much caring a person can do, and it’s hardly unreasonable to want to concentrate on expending it primarily on people within one’s circle of family, friends, and fellow Forumpudlians. My understanding is that humans evolved knowing only about a few hundred people at any given point in their lives. Seeing as this whole mess started with my attempt (apparently botched) to express concern for your mental state, not to mention that just today I was silently crying over a story in the Wall Street Journal (which followed several people’s experiences, ranging from fairly positive to downright tragic to terribly uncertain, with COVID-19*), I don’t think I’m particularly lacking in compassion, but I don’t want to waste it, either, because I get very invested and would feel quite betrayed if I had cared so deeply for no reason or invalid reasons. I was being facetious when I said “maybe I’m apathetic.”

I would have hoped that maybe life would have made you more rational and given you some perspective by now… a-hard-days-night-george-10

It was a well-written article. A young Iranian woman, a photojournalist, spent 5 days in the ICU (described as nightmarish, watching people disappear from neighboring beds) before coming out and saying “I saw the sky with new perspective.” For some reason, after the emotional stress of reading about the Italian man and the Filipino woman who had been laid to rest by their partner and daughter, respectively, it was that phrase, imagining myself in her shoes being so thankful to be alive and recovered, that pushed me over the edge.

30 packets of crisps in lockdown would last me about 10 days. Are you solely ready salted for the salt or any crisps? I adore crisps and they are easily my weakness, I can go without chocolate for a good few days. My body also craves salt due to health reasons so yeah.

I’m now off work for at least another 6 weeks due to the virus. The stress of whether to go back or not whilst all this is going on really hit yesterday leaving me seriously exhausted to the point of not being fit to go back if I did. All the advice from experts and anyone I speak to is self-isolate so now I am; cases in my part of Scotland are rising and the risk of being seriously ill is high if I were to contract it. No going back. Once the final decision is made my being starts to work again. The effects of stress on your wellbeing is insane.

And can we move away from Trump and all disagreements, we’re meant to be supporting each other, not bickering.  If you want to take it to ‘Philosophy’. I’m cranky and not wanting to have to skim thru all that here.heart

I’m going to my local Tesco’s. I could phone for a delivery tomorrow from a small local shop but sod that, can hopefully avoid every human and pay by card.

I think the only thing I ever have bought from M&S for myself is a small pack of mints.

When shopping, I’ve always found fairly early (before 9) or anytime after around 8PM to be best for beating the crowds – not sure if that translates to the other side of the world but that’s my advice at least, if those times suit

People who solely eat ready salted make me sad, there’s a whole life of flavour out there that they’ve not experienced. I have a mixture of crisps (all hail the multipack), I have cheese and onion hoops, cheese puffs and salt and vinegar sticks, in another packet I have Lidl own-brand Hunky Dory’s (which I think they only sell in Ireland) called Okey-Dokeys and BY GAHD are they glorious. They’re newly released (as in like the past month, and they’re actually better than the real Hunky Dory’s) and their flavours are cheese and onion, buffalo, and salt and vinegar. All glorious combos.

I am with you on the crisp love, would prefer a life without chocolate to a life without crisps. I feel if you were to cut me, 1/4 of my flesh is potato- I just had mashed potato about 5 minutes ago. The humble spud is a great lad.

I also find, going within the last hour of closing is when the place is at its quietest. The people who are there are just getting a few things after work and want to go home immediately so it moves quickly.

I’ve been to Tesco and yes I bought crisps. Some hula hoop spin-off, puft they are and beef flavour. We should have an in-depth conversation on the brilliance of crisps and the best flavours. Golden wonder salt and vinegar and cheese and onion are immense but most of their others are delicious.

Potatoes are amazing, not much of a fan of mash but I can eat roast potatoes by the crate and found a long while ago how to make them properly; soft inside but a little crispy on the outside and cooked well done. A mushy soggy roast potato is a disgrace to your dinner. I have an air fryer/oven which cooks them and chips from scratch in about 15/20 minutes.

Why I’m leaving the forum—

I owe those who are actually my friends an explanation as to why I’m leaving the forum.

Please stay in touch via email or Facebook. I won’t be returning until such time Beatlebug is no longer a moderator.

She’s cold and unsympathetic and her judgment is clouded by pro-Trump propaganda, which makes her unfit to arbitrate in a fair manner.

She dismissed my feelings as invalid and suggested I should see a mental health professional because she is in denial of the sick people in Michigan lacking medical supplies because of her precious President. The governor of Michigan has been unable to procure medical supplies because vendors were told to ignore her. I have a friend in Michigan who verified this.

Her use of the shrug emoji is also offensive. I am also not the only person on the forum to be offended by her behavior. Is this a pro-Trump forum? I would think a moderator should be more fair and balanced in what she says instead of calling members mentally unstable because they disagree politically.

That’s why I’m out of here. Let me know when the waters are safe again.

Crispy roasted potatoes are heaven on earth! *chef’s kiss* They don’t even need that much to be flavorful, just some salt and pepper and some thyme and they’re delicious.

I, for one, am a big fan of curly fries but I also love just plain regular fries with ranch on the side. In southwestern PA we have the Pittsburgh-style salad– which is just a salad with grilled chicken and fries and shredded cheese and ranch on top. It really defeats the purpose of a salad, but it’s sooo good, especially if it’s a buffalo chicken Pittsburgh salad–  a guilty pleasure of mine, but it makes me feel a bit less guilty because it has some veggies and lettuce. There’s also a really popular theme park around where I live that has really good freshly-cut fries that they put melted cheese and bacon on top (soooo unhealthy but absolutely amazing).

My preferred salty snack, however, is definitely either Chex Mix or Bugles or Cheez-Its (ugh just thinking about them makes my mouth water. Neither contains potatoes, I just realized, but they’re still delicious)
