I worked retail during holidays. Never enjoyed working any retail job I worked at, save for Bath & Body Works, and that was because I was the only guy employee amongst the all-female staff, and wound up dating the cutest one there (my first girlfriend, actually).
And I’m surprised no one’s mentioned National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation for best X-Mas movies. That one’s a classic at our house. “Worse? How could things get any worse? Take a look around here, Ellen. We’re at the threshold of hell!”

November is when Christmastime begins, get with it, yo.
I don’t know what I’m getting for Christmas, and I really don’t even care. presents is what I hate about Christmas, I feel like they take away from the real reason we celebrate, especially for kids. A lot of kids only care about what they’re getting from Santa, and that is why I hate Santa Claus. Also, the whole deal of Santa is just disgusting. It’s like kids are so innocent and gullible, and all the old people are taking advantage of that. Make them believe in someone good, only to rip their soul out when they’re old and find out they’ve been lied to their whole life by people they thought they could trust.
All living things must abide by the laws of the shape they inhabit

Offline I get what you’re saying, adults use Santa as an excuse to get their children to behave. I think the whole ”you’ve got to be in bed otherwise that fat, bearded man from lapland won’t come” adds to the excitement of Christmas for little kids, though. My childhood would’ve been nothing without Christmas. It’s about the only good thing I remember.
Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

I’m much looking forward to that whole “magic of Christmas” thing with my little boy since for me it was ruined at 6 years old when my uncle, very much drunk, told me matter-of-factly, “Ya know Santa Claus doesn’t exist, right? It’s all made up.” That’s still a rather sore topic with my mother (her brother)- bring it up, and she still gets ill about it.

Offline I loved Santa as a kid, and I love the spirit of Santa even now.
How I found out Santa was a myth: when I was eight years old, dad asked me to get his shoes from his closet for him. I saw the roller skates. They were not hidden quite well enough. I didn’t ask about them that day, but when they were under the tree Christmas moring, I knew.
I had fun helping mom play Santa for my little brother who was ten years younger than me. You should have seen us trying to put that He-Man tent together. That’s one of our fondest memories.

Offline I discovered Santa Claus didn’t exist by accident at 6 when my mom had me help her clean up the wrapping paper in a garbage bag… which was actually a large Toys R Us bag. My mother never, ever took me to Toys R Us because she knew I’d just beg her to buy up the store. I remember pointing to the bag with a triumphant “Aha!” voice: “We never to go to Toys R Us! You’re Santa Claus!”
My mom mumbled a denial, but the jig was up. Probably a relief, really.

Offline I was a gullible kid. One day in second grade (I was about 7/8) some of my friends said “Santa isn’t real”. So, I just went with it and that was that. My parents had to prevent me from telling other children, including my brother, that Santa wasn’t real. It didn’t stop me when they weren’t around from getting into arguments with others about Santa not being real and only little kids like Santa.

Apparently I was a late learner (well according to this thread), I didn’t know Santa wasn’t real until I was 12(?), right before I went into secondary school, it seemed the majority of the people in my class believed he was real as well. It kinda takes the fun out of Christmas eve though, you aren’t excited about what you’re going to get off Santa plus I loved writing my letter to him “Dear Santa, thank you very much for everything you gave me last year” I was told if I was polite to Santa I’d get more stuff 
I always wondered why Santa shopped at ‘Eason’s Bookstore’ though 
Then you’d wonder about what Santa would get ya and the great craic you’d have at mass on Christmas Day, “what you’d get off Santa???” Also if you wrote down “I want a surprise”…what would you get off Santa! Writing that has just brought back a lot of lovely memories 
My Granddad was great for playing up the Santa thing, he has a massive shed at the back of his house. Every Christmas dinner he’d say how he heard Santa’s sleigh bells echoing through the shed as he flew over it, what gullible children we were 
My parents used to break a carrot in half and leave one half in the fireplace ‘a reindeer had eaten half of it and dropped the other half down the chimney’, clumsy reindeer 
Then the fire would be lit and we’d all play with our new toys (and in my case read my new books) in the sitting room. Ah those were the days

Offline I’m on my ‘bah humbug’ year this year so won’t be joining in the festivities.
I alternate each year between loving Christmas and trying to ignore it – people only get cards off me on alternate years etc. etc. (though the family gets gifts every year). I’m not sure what brings this on, maybe the perception of time passing more quickly as I get older and I’m all – “what, bloody Christmas again? I’ve just finished eating the pudding from the last one ..”.

Offline I don’t do Christmas cards as it ends up that you end up sending or giving them to people because you feel you have to; Mavis and Pete get one because they send one each year yet you have no idea who on earth they are, oh, and don’t forget the butcher. Sorry but i’m not one for all this schmaltzy fairy tale crap.
If you are going to send a card for whatever reason do it because you want to not because you feel you have to – preferably on recycled paper or online.

Offline My mom use to have yarn wrapped around the house with Christmas cards hanging from it in several rows. She still gets them, but not as much thanks to email and facebook. Me, I can’t find myself sending Christmas cards.

I love picking out Christmas cards. Several people I know have kept the cards I have sent them throughout the years because they are so beautiful. My half brother even used the one from last year to do a stencil/etching thing on a beautiful mirror.
We still have some old cards people have sent us over the years as well. Some of them are so beautiful. One of my neighbours always sends these really pretty kind of old fashioned ones. We always have some thin rope we fasten on the ceiling from one corner of the living room to another and then we attach the cards we receive to it. We always get quite a lot of cards so it just looks like a long garland.
I never believed in Santa. But we don’t celebrate Christmas with Santa Claus over here, we have Sinterklaas on the 5th of December. There are some people who do the whole presents thing at Christmas instead of during Sinterklaas though, but without Santa Claus.

Offline I’ve never bougt a Christmas card for anyone in the past, mostly because I think they’re overpriced and it’s a waste of paper, but I made an exception this year, and got this for my sister:
It’s just so cute (something else I don’t usually fall for), and we both adore deer. This will be the first and last, though.

Offline The only thing I strongly dislike about Christmas cards is that they’re often just insincere. It’s more like ”Oh you got me a card, I have to get you one as well.” or ”Oh no her grandma died, now I HAVE to get her a card” and things like that. I mean, it’s different with family, of course.
