Have a fab time of catching up with your far away friend seaglass. Those pink and black long underwear things dont sound very pleasant so cant imagine what they look like to the eye.
I got a few beatles things: beatles monopoly, a photobook and official 2012 calender (my first beatles calendar since something like 2000 – i pay no attention to dates its either monday, tuesday etc never the 1st or 24th).
Plus a 4th generation ipod touch, my old one was 2nd generation, which was totally unexpected but my birthday is soon after so it was a tie in. Tho have discovered that i cant have the same number of songs on due to the increase in programmes included as standard and therefore less space for manually added content. Oh well, its a super-cool thing to have. If i can work the damn thing. Struggling to get home-sharing in operation but i was trying to do so away from home so maybe that is the reason. And for anyone who uses it, is itunes match worth the money?

Offline Beatley: I got Love, Plastic Ono Band and Cloud 9, a T-Shirt with the cover of Hard Days Night on the front (didn’t we have a conversation about those not existing? 
), and the Living In The Material World book that I’ve been lusting for since forever. I also got a shedload of other books (inc. Doggett’s Bowie, 1984, Kafkha On The Shore) and CDs (Cage The Elephant, Pala, Journal For Plague Lovers, The Suburbs, ()). My parents also tried to blackmail me into taking my phone with me everywhere by buying me a Blackberry, which was good of them.

Beatley: “Love Me Do ” anniversary calender and a Beatles-themed pack of cards (with the albums as the picture cards). I also a got a new guitar amplifier (Epiphone of course) and SKYRIM.
You all will have read that Dave Dee is no longer with us. But Mickey and Titch and I would like to carry on the good work that's always gone down in number two.

Offline Minor point but whats cool about the calender is that there is a pic of a solo beatle on their respective birth month, so you get a George pic in February, Paul in July etc.

Anyway
Here's what I had. Beatley: an Abbey Road Umbrella, a chord book, a purse, books (although I already had them), pyjamas, and that Love Me Do calendar. Other: a new record player, a harmonica, clothes, jewellery, knitting stuff….
I also went shopping today and got a Beatles wash bag and a top, on sale of course!

I'm not entirely familiar with it yet, though I've listened to it about four times. Definitely not as good as Funeral, but that's the sort of incredible album that comes along once a generation. On a similar plane to Journal For Plague Lovers.
Apologies for this infodumping:
The early tracks, in isolation, are fairly pedestrian. The version of Ready To Start that accompanies the video on YouTube is better because it has some energy. Rococo has a great hook, and there are some good lyrics (including foreshadowing of the themes that surface at the tail end of the album), but there isn't really enough energy.
I've known the track listing for a long time, and I imagined songs like “City With No Children” and “Suburban War” to be very different (I thought Suburban War would sound like a Pink Floyd song with helicopter sound effects and psychadelic screaming, for example). Don't think I can make a judgment on that middle block yet.
Month Of May is so energetic, it really contrasts with the earlier songs, and it kicks the album out of mediocrity. From then on the songs are generally better. Wasted Hours sounds much better immediately after Month Of May than in isolation because the casual strumming just works better after the high energy song. Deep Blue is fairly good. We Used To Wait is very good, particularly with the video that you can participate in on Google Chrome. Sprawl I (Flatland) then sucks loads of energy out of it again.
Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) is brilliant, easily the best song on the album. I always turn the volume right up. I love the transition from the middle eight to the chorus (“can we ever get away from the sprawl, living in the sprawl…”), and the tune, the energy, the lyrics… basically everything about it.
The Suburbs (continued)- I read the lyrics to the song before hearing it, and they're one of the best pieces of poetry I have read in my life, but musically the song is really weak.
So yeah, not as good as Funeral, but one of the best albums of recent years. I'll wait and see if it is as good as Neon Bible, that will probably take several months to judge.

Offline I know its late but HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Im super exicited because for christmas I got a guitar!!!
But oh man, ITS SO HARD!!! Its not that I cant bend my fingers to the right chords (I play violin), its that I cant move my hands fast enough to change chords. George's fingers must have been crazy fast.
I wish I was as cool as George…..(but yet again, I don't think anyone can be as cool as him)So if I ever get good at any Beatles songs, I will try to post a video of me playing it.***? "A Hard Day's Night" opening chord ?***
