I decided to add quite a few things to the song although I decided to let Silly Girl get the main guitar part because she seemed really eager to play it.

This may seem crazy coming from a guy who shows a strong interest in minor details in Beatles songs like what guitar model was used but I think that adding some creativity and putting parts that weren’t there on the original version made this project more enjoyable so I added.
Acoustic guitar doubling the bass for the 1st verse and chorus

Harmonized lead after 1st chorus

Tapping outro
Rhythm guitar for final chorus
Acoustic guitar intro
Hopefully when we’re done with this we can move over to Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band and do that song like we did this one.

Um, @Dark Overlord: we need the audacity project, not the ‘flattened’ wav file, because we need to be able to access the multitracks throughout recording.

Offline Sorry to be a pain again, but you need to zip the folder that has the friends.aup file and friends_data folder, because the aup file is coding for audacity to know how to unpack the folder.
So you’d zip the folder called ‘friends’, which has the aup file and the data folder inside it.

Yeah I’d really love a real piano or two (I suspect its more than one on the original, it sounds like it has a very slow phase or chorus on it witch may just be ADT) than my softsynth piano. Hopefully you can get a bit of the room (but not too much!), that always helps.

Actually, everyone: I’m going to rebase the project on @The Hole Got Fixed ‘s file, and it’s getting quite big, so from now on, record your bits along with it, then save a new project with just your bits left in, delete the other tracks and then save that as a compressed project, I can put them all together and that way we can save time and a lot of downloading 😀
@The Hole Got Fixed I really appreciated your help on the backing and rebasing the project, its actually quite close to a temp mix i made from mine. The last bit of backing vocals got a bit weirdly out of tune so I’ve made an executive decision and toned it down 😀 There’s another harmony in the 2nd “do you need anybody” that we need, I’m going to put a guide kazoo line in to show everyone because I literally can’t sing it in anything but quavery falsetto.
TODO: we need a bit of billy shears vocal and more importantly, we need tambourine in the 2nd and last choruses! And of course the guitars.

I’m happy to do the mixing, but I’ll definitely put temp mixes out there for critique. I’ve just been adding more guide bits to the mix, I’ll have a temp mix up for you to check out and give feedback today. What I’m going to try is mixing the vocals and instruments separately and then putting the whole thing together, I find mixing vox to be the most challenging thing after mixing for bass.

Offline Bit of a derail from the intent of this thread which was to make a single original song. This is more like the Beatles Bible Band which aimed to cover Beatles songs.
I don’t really have any musical skills that wouldn’t be preformed by those on the project already. I would share the finished project though.

Bands have to practice. We have to figure out a process for doing this before somehow coming up with something original. That means we have to figure out who’s good at what, how we can combine efforts. It’s seriously vital to getting anything done in the future. The Beatles Bible Band v1 couldn’t get Off The Ground because people either didn’t know how or didn’t want to contribute. This version seems more motivated and prepared to walk before it can run. One step at a time eh 😀

Offline When everyone is comfortable with the process maybe we could try some standard form like a 12-bar blues and put our own spin on it? Then it would be original but not too daunting to organize.

That’s some kind of artifact – could be any number of causes (I use a sequencer inside a VM running windows xp), nothing a bit of click removal doctoring can’t fix! I literally couldn’t hear it without soloing so you must have pretty sharp ears! I’ll have to watch for that.
