My birthday presents (which I got for myself with a gift card but whatever) (also they came in the mail ages ago but I’ve been sAvInG them):

IMAG0012.jpgImage Enlarger

David Bowie – The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars (1972)

I’ve been waiting for ages for Amazon to stop trippin’ and bring the price of this album down to something I was willing to fork over. ahdn_george_06

Muse – Origin of Symmetry (2001)

This has been on my to-acquire list for an embarrassingly long time; it kept getting pushed back to make way for, erm, more or less my entire Zeppelin collection, and other things paul-mccartney-facepalm_gif

Fistful of Mercy – As I Call You Down (2010)

Y’all know how madly I fell in love with this album recently and I just had to get it. ahdn_john_08_gif

I bought The Beatles in Stereo on CD today (yes, all 16 CDs!) I remember thinking, “Man, this sucker is huge!” My wife giving me all sorts of crap for buying a $216 collection when “You already have the songs!” Some people just don’t get it.

I’ve been on a tear, re-acquiring all the Beatles U.S. releases on vinyl, picking them up on eBay. The most recent to arrive was a copy of Introducing the Beatles. I have copies of Yesterday and Today, Abbey Road , Hollywood Bowl and A Hard Day’s Night still in the labyrinth of the US Postal Service. The only one left to buy is Yellow Submarine .

Next I guess I will have to turn to the UK releases and compilations.

Then maybe save up for a Butcher Cover!

Happy birthday, Rita, and congratulations on your new turntable and vinyl purchases!

I’m reminded of my grandparents buying me my own first proper stereo, plus a few new 45s. (I was eight)

Not terribly elaborate, but a definite improvement over my dad’s old handed-down 1940s turntable, which folded into a little carryable valise-shape with a single speaker mounted inside the lid.

Got Revolver  in the mail today. Playing it right now– I love being able to see the artwork up close and in person! beatlemaniacs_02_gif It sounds great overall– there was a bit of crackling in places on Side 1, but it was just dust (used my Koala Kloth to clean that off). I also noticed that the vinyl itself is slightly warped (I can see the tone arm go up and down a tiny bit as the record spins), however the warping isn’t so bad as to affect the sound at all– there’s no skipping or horrible crackling noises, so it’ll be fine I think. Side 2 sounds great, too.

Rubber Soul and Abbey Road  came today– haven’t opened them yet because I just wiped the Amazon box off and I’m waiting for the cleaner to dry (gotta kill that bacteria!!!). Praying that nothing is warped or scratched a-hard-days-night-paul-10

Hopefully you don’t have to go through the post office escapades I went through to retrieve it.

My aunt sent over what I do believe were duplicates in her record collection, so now I’ve got a copy of Carole King’s Tapestry.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 Well, it seems we’ve got a lot of Carole King fans here, then!

Apologies for double-posting, but a very special box set (and a couple of related goodies, too) arrived just the other day:

Wildflowers-And-All-The-Rest-Stuffs-2.JPGImage Enlarger

I did end up going with the 5 CD one, and I’m SO very excited to listen to everything! beatlemaniacs_02_gif After hearing it for the first time earlier this year in around March/April, Wildflowers quickly grew to become one of my absolute favourite albums. It’s been a real comfort to me and it holds a special place in my heart, so having such a lovely set for it come out so soon after my discovery of it was really exciting news. I’m so happy to have it. heart

Also: Why must my photos always go sideways when they’re not that way on my computer??? a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

First up, some Record Store Day pickups that I forgot to post about earlier (whoops):

McCartney 50th Anniversary

Instant Karma ! (We All Shine On) b/w Who Has Seen The Wind? (2020 Ultimate Mixes) – Lennon/Ono with the Plastic Ono Band

Elton John – Elton John (transparent purple vinyl)

Out To Get You! Live 1977 – Cheap Trick

And here’s what I received for my birthday/Christmas:

McCartney III (CD)

Into The Great Wide Open – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (CD)

Cleveland Calling – Rory Gallagher (vinyl, also a Record Store Day release)

All in all, some very neat stuff!

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.
