I recently got into Joy Division and, after listening to a handful of songs from their first lp Unknown Pleasures, I bought it. Hauntingly beautiful; it’s already one of my favourite albums. Ian Curtis was a tortured soul, but he managed to express that in the most sublime way. I’ve realised that sometimes the greatest beauty comes from places of great pain.
Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

Why Amazon is amazing:
I bought Zeppelin III for $13 a few days ago, a dollar cheaper than the album on iTunes. That wouldn’t be that big a deal, but Amazon, for that dollar less, gives you the digital files immediately and ships the CD!
So that just arrived, the two disc-remastered one.
The remasters are really nice if anyone was thinking about getting one of them. III is really cool because it still has the pinwheel thing from the LP and a nice little booklet with the two CD’s top-loading into the package. And the music is really good, so I’d recommend it.

Considering that when you buy a download the quality is not great and basically you’re buying air for all that you get physically Amazon (or anywhere else that does the same) is the way to go. I got Abba’s ‘The Visitors Deluxe’ for £11 on amazon, listened to the mp3 that day and then 3 days later when the album came in the post replaced them all with a rip of the CD. It might be a couple of quid more at times but its far better. Also i don’t know if it’s the same as with anyone else but my iTunes keeps wanting to reorganise the files i bought there back into their original albums which is a right pain in the neck. No idea how many times i’ve had to wrestle them back.
It seems to be becoming more common, well Sky are now giving you the dvd if you rent one of their movies from their store – no idea if its a blank dvd with film ripped onto it and with no artwork tho.

Haven’t got my hands on it yet, but I’m shopping around for the 4-disc version of the CSNY 1974 set that came out this week. If anyone can find one online that is cheaper than Amazon.ca (at around $52 plus postage) let me know. Having said that we all know I will end up spending $100 locally just to get my hands on it NOW

Can’t you download boots of the ’74 concerts online?
Yes – I have few bits and pieces of them and some videos – but as usual I also like to have ‘stuff’ on the shelf, in nicely remastered versions and the book which comes with it. Neil Young in particular has a lot of great unreleased material available as bootlegs, and has said he doesn’t mind fans having access to any of it.
[EDIT] I should also add that it is the boots that have been around for so long that have had fans wanting this official release for a long time now. They have been ‘working on it’ for at least 5 years, with poor Nash having a nightmare of a time getting Neil to agree to anything – particularly the videos – amidst claims he didn’t want footage of his ‘mutton chops’ on an official release

I managed to find a decent price on the net and it is now on the way for about half what it would cost locally. The reviews are pretty good so I am really looking forward to it. I also have a few Neil Young CDs I need to catch up on (‘Cellar Door’ and ‘Letter Home’) but it is my birthday soon and they are on my wishlist so may show up then

Bought a 3-CD Beach Boys compilation today, which may prompt me to get a few of the albums I had by them way back when. For some unknown reason I seem to like their middle / later albums; the ones that are not so popular with many of their fans (Holland, L.A. – stuff like that).

I like a lot of their later albums, too.

I just bought Rush’s first two live albums, All The World’s A Stage and Exit…Stage Left. Sadly had to buy them on iTunes because without a computer I have no way to get CDs into a digital copy, which sucks.

All The World’s A Stage absolutely, undeniably, categorically and without question rocks my world!!! Love the early Rush – the later stuff, not so much.

Found a few things at a garage sale last week for less than a dollar each, including albums by Dylan, Elvis, Robert Plant/Alison Krauss…and George Harrison ‘s “Brainwashed” Haven’t played any of them yet; hope I enjoy that George album so I can participate in discussions about when they come up here. (I also saw Paul’s “Off The Ground ” for sale but it’s got a bad reputation so I overlooked that one.)

No!!!!!! ‘Off The Ground ‘ is a fine album with some fantastic tracks. The reputation it’s gotten is in no way proportionate to the music contained. We have a thread on it.
