Okay so I was finally able to make it to a record store for the very first time! I’ve only recently gotten into the whole vinyl thing, but I am slowly but surely building up my collection. I’m pretty darn excited!

I managed to snag an original pressing with the poster!

Today I picked up a few nice records.

I got Ringo’s Sentimental Journey

Then while I don’t usually buy compilation albums, I got Eagles’s Their Greatest Hits record because of how cheap it was and how good it’s condition is.

Then I got The Beatles’ Movie Medley/I’m Happy Just To Dance With You 45, as well as Love Me Do /P. S. I Love You 45

I can’t believe I’m saying this but now I know that there’s a greatest hits album by The Eagles that lacks Hotel California, their most popular song of all time. It’d be like a Queen greatest hits album without We Will Rock You or a KISS greatest hits album without Rock And Roll All Nite, but it’s true and it’s because they didn’t wait to release a compilation album, reminds me of that Judas Priest compilation where it contains 3 tracks from their 1st album, 4 tracks from their 2nd album, and a track from their 3rd album, although none of their popular songs had been written at the time.

Well this album came out after One Of These Nights, but before Hotel California, so I think that explains why Hotel California isn’t on it. It only contains stuff from Eagles, Desperado, On The Border, and One Of These Nights since those were the albums that preceded it.

Paul is Necko’s dead uncle who he mentioned in the In My Life thread as being very ill and hospitalized. Anyways, you uncle has some great tastes, seems to be into a lot of hard rock and heavy metal.

Sorry about your uncle, @Necko , but DAMN that is one fantastic treasure trove of stuff there! (Hawkwind! Montrose! BOC!)

Plus you managed to acquire a couple of good Ted Nugent records without having to buy them new, thus depriving him of money which he’d just use for evil purposes.

Sad circumstances for getting them, but that is an amazing gift, Necko – fantastic albums. Nantucket Sleigh Ride by Mountain, I especially love the album cover art work and the song of the album title dedicated to and about Owen Coffin – how horrific a story was that!

Oh, what a great collection! Such a variety of different styles!beatlemaniacs_02_gif

The 2Cellos Cd is really cool – at the beginning, you think they’re another classic ensemble trying to play some pop songs to please their younger audience (at least that’s what I thought) but then when you listen to them you notice they really feel the music and their arrangements fit the mood of the original piece spot-on.

Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's

Have ordered 6 Emmylou Harris CD’s from Amazon to fill holes in my library and have very happily found a download of ‘Gliding Bird’ as it’s damn expensive on Amazon (£30) and not available on iTunes etc. Sourced from vinyl but no matter. Also found the complete set from Shephard’s Bush 1995 when she was promoting the ‘Wrecking Ball’ album, 16 compared to the commonly available 12 songs.

Yeah, pretty much.  Also, crates full of vinyl.

Paul also left me his entire CD collection, but I haven’t really gone through it yet.

I stopped at the Goodwill and another resale store and got some new stuff.

Necko, have you ever heard Bob Seger’s early stuff – the singles he did as Bob Seger and the Last Heard, and the Bob Seger System albums and other pre-SilverBullet recordings he did under his own name between 1966 and ’73? It’s a true shame Bob has never authorized the reissue of more than a handful of those tracks!

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.
