Offline Just finished Victor Maymudes’ 2014 memoir, largely about his time as Dylan’s road manager, Another Side of Bob Dylan. He was working on it at the time of his death in 2001, and had recorded many hours of memories for it, but died before he could pull it together. Over a decade later his son, Victor, returned to the tapes and completed the book.
Fascinating chapter on Dylan and the Beatles in August 1964, and the Beatles first proper engagement with marijuana in the company of Dylan at the Delmonica Hotel in New York City on the 28th. A lengthy account is given of that night which differs in many aspects to the version, largely based on the Beatles accounts, we are used to, including that Brian didn’t partake that night (with him first smoking, and having a total meltdown, toward the end of the tour) and Bob quickly ending up asleep on the floor after having been up for roughly three days straight.
Have been dipping out of Peter Asher’s The Beatles from a to Zed. It’s probably the worst Beatles book from any of those closely involved at the time, and probably one of the worst Beatles books from anyone. Largely based on his series on the Beatles channel, it seems that it just collects together largely facile scripts which barely scratch the surface of any subject it touches upon, and not seeming to have rewritten any of the scripts for the different medium of the page as opposed to the ear, is often incredibly cheesy radio-speak that you wouldn’t expect in a book:

He asks in his introduction whether the idea behind the radio show can work as a book. It might have, but not without major work to change it into a written exercise. rather than an audio format stripped of the audio that might have made on the radio but is a car crash on the page.
About to start Ken McNab’s And in the End: The Last Days of The Beatles, which takes a month by month look at 1969.

Offline I have just bought a huge haul books from my country’s very own “Big Bad Wolf Sale”, with extremely good first-hand book deals. I do plan to share my new collection of books with my younger sister. Here is the first one which I am currently reading at the moment:
