When the Past Masters albums were released 30 some odd years ago one of the first things I did was replicate the American albums on cassette using the CDs. For Help and Hard Day's Night I just put together the songs from the movie (what a juggernaut that was). The one thing that was apparent was my opinions about Meet the Beatles.
Regardless of sound quality, this is the one instance where the American knock off is better than the original album. Song wise there is no contest. In a different universe maybe the only cover used would be Money, but I get the use of Til There Was You. It was something to paraphrase John about another song "something for the grannies to enjoy."
Any opinions?

I 100% agree, I really like how they took out the rock and roll covers and replaced them with I Want To Hold Your Hand followed by it's US B-side I Saw Her Standing There and the UK B-side This Boy . And then the next album contains all of the rock and roll covers plus 3 B-sides, She Loves You , and 2 tracks yet to be released in the US.
It would've been great if they started releasing the albums like they were in the UK afterwards because Meet The Beatles! and The Beatles' Second Album are really great albums.

I'm not really a fan of the Second Album. The original stereo version sounds like it was mastered in an empty silo. I've never been a fan of their version of Roll Over Beethoven to begin with. She Loves never sounds that great even in mono but the duophonic version that was it's stereo norm is a living hell to listen to. The early B-sides included are among their worst work. The Rock n Roll Music comp from the 70's had five of these songs and they sounded much better there. The remaining three songs (Motown and faux-Motown) fare much better on with the Beatles

That's Stereophonic for you.
