Hey, I’m new to the forums, but I have visited the site a bunch since January. So, I thought my first post should be on what would be on my single disc “The Beatles” album. I am a huge fan of Beatles, but I am a bit of a newbie, only starting to listen to them in September. I am also using songs that weren’t on the White Album , but were released in 1968. So, here it goes.

Offline ^ Welcome aboard Irate. Nice listing, it has me thinking even more that the White Album is really amazing since everyone has come up with such awesome variations for it.

Offline I actually am with George Martin on the one disc comment but it is very hard to whittle it down to 14 though.

Offline I don’t think I could fall within the parameters required. I’d want all 5 of George’s songs on the lp, and none of the “solo” ( Julia , I Will ” , etc. ) on it. My lp would probably have only 2 PM songs on it, mostly George and John, which we know never would have gone over. Still think George Martin was right about it being a single lp: frankly, there’s too much weak or solo material on it. Just my opinion.

I kind of like the idea of the album having been themed around the Revolutions, with 9 serving as an intermission and 1 being the “reprise”

Why the *** would anyone want Revolution 9 , Good Night & What’s The New Mary Jane on an single LP is beyond me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those are 3 throw away songs, that should have been thrown away! 
They could have shown up on Anthology, and I would have gladly skipped them.
I do agree that Revolution & Revolution 1 should have been included to open & close, perhaps side 2!

Offline I’m one of those who believes the White Album is best as a double lp. I like the way the tempo, rhythm, volume, and subject matter of the songs ebbs and flows. But in trying to cut it down, I agree with @Bongo that those 3 songs would be near the top of the cut list (although Mother Nature’s Son is quite a good song in its own right – but you have to listen closely).

I know this is heavily sides 1-2 weighted, but I almost think the best solution would have been to release sides 1-2 as is as a single lp, then release Revolution 1 and Helter Skelter , with Warm Gun and Monkey as b-sides, as singles. I really like my side 1, but side 2 was much more difficult. As far as Don’t Pass Me By , every Beatles album has a Ringo song, and they wouldn’t have left him off this one. But it was darn hard to fit in! Not Guilty is a better song, and would have fit nicely in its place. Julia is just one of my favorite songs and sets the mood to end it like Good Night did, only Julia is better than Good Night

Offline It was quite easy to get rid of songs, but when I finished with that, I had 18 left. It was very hard to get rid the remaining songs. And I might just change my mind again tomorrow.
