It contains John’s best songs on any Beatles album IMO. Or at least some of his most iconic.

I have said it before, and I will say it again, Magical Mystery Tour is not a Beatles album, but rather a compilation of non-album material released in 1967 put together by Capitol because EPs never really took off in America, let alone a double-EP. Regarding it in the same way as something like Revolver , using the example above, is like comparing apples and bacon.
Don't get me wrong, it is a mighty fine compilation album, and an instance where Capitol got it right (unlike, say, The Beatles Again (Hey Jude ) - which is a bit of a bizarre hodgepotch), but it remains a compilation album of non-album tracks. The Beatles never went into the studio to record an album called Magical Mystery Tour , whereas Revolver was an album that they went into the studio to record, that they planned as an album.
It's like being asked what your favourite pre-Pepper (the touring years) album is, and naming Parlophone's 1966 A Collection of Beatles Oldies...
I have no problem with people choosing a compilation as their favourite album, just with it being compared with their proper studio albums and being spoken about as if they put the same thought into it as they did with their studio albums when the only thought they put into it was to agree to it being released - and even that was probably more down to a business decision by Brian that they just nodded their heads to...

Revolver 's the best but I'm sure I listen to Abbey Road more, especially after the 50th Anniversary box came out.

I would have to say that Rubber Soul is my favorite considering I listen to it at least once a week and never get tired out it. Sgt. Pepper and the White Album are close seconds.

This remains very much true, I do love me some Rubber Soul Shoot, but I haven't listened to it yet this week.
