So I’m not sure whether this has already been posted about, but today I was scrolling through Rate Your Music dot com when I stumbled across this bizarre new release listed under The Beatles’ artist page: a 23 minute, 6 track EP named ‘Spooky Songs’, apparently released in time for Halloween.

https://rateyourmusic.com/rele…..oky-songs/

I’m very confused by this whole thing. For one, most of the songs aren’t remotely spooky, they didn’t even include ‘Eleanor Rigby ‘ or ‘Revolution 9 ‘, the two spookiest songs in the catalog if you ask me, and for another, since when did The Beatles randomly release themed EPs of already heard material? Anyone got any clue?

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

There is nothing in Amazon if you click on the links and nothing on iTunes. It will be someone’s playlist they have thrown together and it’s been picked up by that site.

For something to be listed as a release on RYM it has to be submitted by a user and approved by an admin. There are also comments implying it is/was on Apple Music.

Plus based on googling it, I’ve found it on Spotify, though it doesn’t show up on their artist page. The mystery thickens…

This is definitely a strange and completely unnecessary release IMO.

First of all, how did Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and It’s All Too Much make it but Helter Skelter and I Want You (She’s So Heavy) didn’t. Sure, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds may have a bit of mystical feel but so does Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) and sure, It’s All Too Much relies heavily on distorted electric guitar and weird sound effects but so does Birthday and out of those 2 examples, no one would consider either to be a spooky song.

But most importantly, this is just a repackaging of previously released tracks. It’d be one thing if they used alternate takes or remixes but instead, they just compiled this using the same thing you’d hear on the albums, which is ironic considering how much they hated it when Capitol would do the same exact thing.

Another EP has been released onto Spotify. This time it’s ‘The Beatles For Kids’. Why has there been almost no promotion of this?

Hey, I was wrong – world rotates as normal as nothing different to regular times.

Very odd tho. Must be a way to target the Beatles music to specific groups or themes in a bid to get more listeners. How are ‘Lucy’ or ‘IOS’ spooky tho? But there were bizarre selections on that 2013(?) download album I forget the name of so its not uncommon. ‘SLH’ isn’t really a love song but it was put on ‘Love Songs’ in 1977.

How is Rock And Roll Music a kids song? Sure, it’s family friendly, but so is their entire discography and this song isn’t any more of a children’s song than any other Beatles song randomly pulled out of a hat.

ATN ‘ is a glaring omission and ‘The Everlasting Narrative of Semi-Detached Bob’ is more kiddy than ‘Good Day Sunshine ‘.

They could only come up with 6 spooky tracks and 6 ‘kid’ songs? They need to do more psychedelics. After a while everything starts to sound like Piper or SMiLE, which is the eeriest of all because it sounds like a haunted playground.
