So it’s true, today’s not the 50th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper but rather the observed anniversary, similar to Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Christmas.

heart

The emotions over the clarity and brightness of this album built up and finally came gushing out half way through Lovely Rita . Tears were streaming down my face. Sgt. Pepper had a little help from his sound-mixing friends to make this awesomest of albums even more awesomer.

The crispness of the voices caused me to visualize/fantasize the facial features and gestures of each Beatle as they were singing. I guess the personality seems to show through more on these mixes. Funny, since they were trying to be a fantasy group and not themselves for Sgt. Pepper .

I got more of that “live” performance feeling from this version of the album.

She’s Leaving Home sounded like it had been wrapped lovingly in the softest blanket a human could ever feel. I definitely have more of an appreciation for Within You Without You now; great job, George.

Grand slam. Triple crown. Touchdown. Goal. Bullseye. Perfect 10. apple01

I wish John and George were here to celebrate with us.

I heard a bit of an interview with Giles Martin on the radio. They played some bits and bobs from the box set, including the demo of SFF (which was amazing, John’s voice is so crisp and pure) and the remixed With A Little Help From My Friends . Everything sounded amazingly crisp and sparkling and technicoloured, but the kick-drum fill right after the first chorus was what blew my mind — in the old mix, it sounds like a kick drum fill, but in the remix, it sounds like an explosion in an elevator shaft! Brilliant. beatlemaniacs_02_gif

I also started work on a commemorative drawing of Sgt Pepper teaching the band to play, but with my usual wonderful timekeeping, it probably won’t be ready for release a-hard-days-night-george-10 for another week or sogeorge-martin

I’ve been through the 1994 CD release.

Do you mean the 1987 CD releases?

No, I meant the 1994 CD release. That’s when I got Sgt Peppers first on CD. I’ve talked to a few people who did the same. The 20th anniversary release was nice but I don’t know that it was much different to the 1987 digital master.

I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe.  This has been true for 2016 & 2017 Sig-Badge.png but I may have to get more specific in the future.

The 1994 campaign was more of a re-promotion than a re-release. None of the CDs had been deleted since their initial 1987 release (hardly surprising). A CD bought in 1994 is identical to one bought in 1987.

I gave the album a listen in celebration. I then listened to other songs from 1967 because I was in the mood for songs from that era.

I still haven’t purchased the box set because my bank account won’t allow it at this time but I will be getting it in the not too distant future.

Annoying thing – I’m going to be in Liverpool on the 18th of June, two days after the Sgt Pepper month ends, since my exams finish on the 16th and I go on holiday two days after. Guess I’ll have to settle for the Beatles museum and possibly Cavern Club, both of which I visited when I was very young.

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Anyone puzzled by Apple including a more crackly copy of the US mono ‘Penny Lane ‘ than is widely available on bootlegs? They sourced it from acetate as the original has gone, you’d think they could find a better source than they did.

Does anyone have a summary of the various TV and radio shows to commemorate the 50th anniversary? I tried looking back through this thread but I gave up.

Oh, I think you can see much, much more than that. I’m going to be in Liverpool in October and my 4.5 days there will be quite full of Beatley sights and things, including old venues they used to play. I’ll be seeing a lot of non-Beatles sights too, obviously, but I’ll be covering more than 100km by bicycle just to see the majority of the places that are linked to the Beatles. Surely there must be something for you too?

P.S. I agree about the Pepper thing. I wish it was all year, but I suppose they have to draw the line somewhere.

Very unlike myself (I don’t like Twitter at all) I jumped head-first into the SgtPepperDay craze. I just couldn’t stop smiling all day. The thought that all over the world, people were connected by that one record was such a lovely feeling! It’s difficult to describe, it just felt very loving and peaceful to know millions or people of all walks of life sort of came together to celebrate this fun day.

P.S. You can’t see it in the photo, but the T-shirt is a custom-made, one-of-a-kind design (by moi). The front says:

John

Paul

George

and Ringo

in the Sgt Pepper font, and on the back across my shoulder blades is this:

Yeah it is quite an annoyance. As I said, I’ve visited it all before but I was very young and not really a fan. My memories are Ringo’s tiny drum kit, being amazed by the Help ! album cover and reading about George’s expedition. This time, however, I’m gonna do the full thing and visit Penny Lane & Strawberry Fields as well as all their homes, the cavern club etc.

Back on topic, I’m quite annoyed I didn’t Pepper-detox myself for a bit before the first. It would have made my stereo listen to my copy absolutely amazing. Still, the album is impressive enough without anticipation.

Who’s with me for fifty years of Dark Side in 2023?
