OK, this is dead interesting. Besides being an alternative version of the Sgt Pepper title track (same take, but without final vocals and overdubs), the outro contains McCartney’s “I feel it, I feel it…” vocals which were used on Free Now from Liverpool Sound Collage (Beatles/Super Furry Animals remix).
I’d always thought the Free Now vocals were from the Think For Yourself session in November 1965. Damn, I wish they’d release *everything* – every outtake, every little bit of studio chatter, the whole kit and caboodle.

Happy 51st birthday to one of the best albums to grace the earth!
It was 71 years ago today that Sgt Pepper taught the band to play, apparently.

I think that Sgt. Pepper was a wonderful album, but I really wish there would have been more percussion. In an interview, Ringo states that he wishes he could’ve contributed more to the album. If you think about it, the only songs with a drum track throughout most of the song are With A Little Help From My Friends , and Within You Without You , and the title song (and it’s reprise). But, it is overall a really good album; it includes some of my favorites such as Lovely Rita , and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds .
Reporter: Beethoven figures in one of your songs. What do you think of Beethoven?
Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.

But what about the amazing fills throughout ADITL or GMGM, to name just two? Or the parade/waltz/light jazz rhythms that show up? I think Ringo, if anything, stepped his game up in 1967; and the reason he had so much idle time was because much of his work was done once the track was laid down. There’d be a few minimal extra percussive bits added, maybe; but many more hours would be devoted to extra vocals/horns/strings/keyboards etc. It’s understandable that Ringo would maybe feel less invested in that part of the process.
Just speculation…

Agreed. I have never found a song on which I am disappointed in Ringo’s drumming. I’ll be listening to a song, and it’ll have relatively minimal drumming, and I’ll think to myself, “This drumming is amazing! How does he do it?” Because there’s more to good drumming than tons of fancy fills (though those can be nice.) The thing about Ringo is that he always knows exactly what drumming to do to make the song perfect. And that’s why he is the best drummer ever.
Correction: There is one song on Sgt Pepper ‘s that has horrible percussion. The drumming on She’s Leaving Home sucks.
(Just kidding. Drumming would ruin She’s Leaving Home . And Ringo knew that! See what I mean? There’s no drumming, but it is the absence of drumming that makes the song great.)

“I always preferred it to all the other albums, including Pepper, because I thought the music was better. The Pepper myth is bigger, but the music on the White Album is far superior, I think.” – John Lennon .
I agree, John!

In ranking my 13 canon albums I placed Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band at #7 saying of it: “A journey that takes many turns. Diversity on steroids. An aural feast.”
Unless Paul McCartney knocks on my door I am unlikely to be impressed.
