From Wagner TubaAlthough the upper range of the horn repertoire rarely exceeds high C (two octaves above the horn’s middle C, sounding F at the top of the treble clef), skilled players in a good symphony orchestra can achieve yet higher pitches.
The solo gets to a D#, a minor third above that high C (so he was skilled, and could get it).
I can only get to a G below that high C, and rarely an A (I got it for Sgt Pepper ).
So much like Penny Lane ‘s more famous ‘out of the range’ solo, For No One is also out of the range.
Wow. That’s skill.
Love one another.

And Your Bird Can Sing always makes me feel amazing. Always. All of the Revolver songs are sensational but I gotta admit, this one sticks out to me a lot. Such energy and melancholy about it that I never tire of.

I absolutely love the sequencing of I Want To Tell You and Got To Get You Into My Life . They compliment each other so well in terms of contrast and it feels so right.

I’m trying to imagine how revolutionary it sounded back in the day, in terms of sound and lyrics. The same band that released Love Me Do !

I’ve always had a soft spot for And Your Bird Can Sing . Not sure why. The fact that it was used as the theme for the last season of the cartoon show might have something to do with it.

Ooh, very tough question. Probably I’m Only Sleeping , with Eleanor Rigby a close second.
Of course when I was growing up in the US, I’m Only Sleeping wasn’t on Revolver .

I love Here, There, and Everywhere. I find it really calming when I’m feeling upset or sad.
It demonstrates the power of harmonising. The song would be next to nothing without it, creating the entire atmosphere.

On Revolver , Lennon’s tracks were all built around a similiar sound. Like those tracks, Walls And Bridges features songs with a similar sound. Old Dirt Road, Bless You and #9 Dream.

Revolver is probably my favourite album so it’s very hard to pick.
I’d likely have to say Here, There And Everywhere because I can’t imagine a world without that song, but I’m also nuts about She Said She Said , Doctor Robert , Tomorrow Never Knows , I’m Only Sleeping , Love You To , Taxman , For No One , I Want To Tell You , Your Bird, …. basically all of them!!
I love the horns on Got To Get You Into My Life too. It gives me that triumphant 70s vibe like Wings does.
I’m not a fan of the song Yellow Submarine so I don’t have it on my playlist. I think Eleanor Rigby is technically great but it’s not one of my faves.

That Walls And Bridges sound is bizzare. I like it a lot, but that envelope filter on the guitar almost sounds cheap, and the whole thing is kind of washed out, but somehow it works. Its almost the opposite production as Revolver . Any sort of trick (aside from the backwards guitar and tape loops) from the engineering and producers is completely invisible, and the 3 dimensional sonic mapping of the stereo mix makes space for every instrument to perfectly nestle into its place. Every instrument and voice can be clearly heard, but the complete sound of each song is cohesive. Its one of the best mixed albums Ive ever heard.
Walls And Bridges on the other hand throws the kitched sink at the production and many of the audio effects and are overpowering against the full mix. Still I actually like the production of Walls And Bridges . I dont know if they were using a Mu-Tron on the guitar or if its just well execution wah footwork, but it predates the mid/late 70s Grateful Dead where Jerry really pioneered the use of that sound. Zappa had used the Mu Tron not long after the release of the pedal, I hear it in the Roxy Performances in 73, apparently it can be spotted on his board in the film (although ive listened to the shows I havent watched the movie. By the way if you like keyboards listen to the Roxy Performances for genius keyboard work from George Duke.)
Either way many of the production choices from Walls And Bridges aren’t as clean as what we hear on Revolver but theyre very cool and I think John pulls it off. Old Dirt Road would be the same if the “cool water” line was not paid off with that water envelope lick.
Anyway sorry if that went to off topic into gear stuff (Im not sure I buy that John was even aware of what pedals Zappa or Jerry Garcia were using during their American live shows in the mid 70s.) My favorite song on Revolver is I’m Only Sleeping , second is Tomorrow Never Knows . Psychedelic rock at its finest. The experimental approach to recording combined with George Martin’s glossy production makes them so strangely beautiful to listen to.
