I’ve just listened to the whole album. Overall, it’s quite good; it is the Beatles after all. I was surprised with the sound quality, as it’s VERY good. The roar of the crowd is always audible of course, but I never found myself being annoyed by it. I get why some people would want the crowd to be louder, so it is a better simulation of a real concert, but I care much more about the actual music. That said, the playing and singing is fantastic! I would say that some of the songs equal the quality of their respective studio versions. Especially Roll Over Beethoven , Long Tall Sally , and She Loves You . However, it isn’t all positives. I really wish the guitars were a lot louder on some songs, and it kinda sucks that Apple didn’t just release the whole concerts. Pretty good live album though, all things considered. Of course, this is just my first impressions, so my opinion will probably change.

I agree. The first thing I noticed when listening was the quality of the vocal performances. Paul especially sounded amazing. Sure the restoration helps, but he has the kind of voice that can ring through the crowd noise and mayhem. It’s so beautiful.

I just heard the new album and compared it to the original. It’s a definite improvement. On the original, the audience screams seem to surround and envelop the music, and are almost louder than the music.
On the remaster, you still hear the screams but it’s like they are outside of the music, with the music being in the forefront.

I bought the Hollywood Bowl album in 1986. 30 years later it finally comes out on CD. You really can feel the excitement in the performances and the new mix is better. I am not a fan of those live bonus tracks tacked on the end, so I put them into the show. Keeping things more simple, I put them after She’s A Woman (but I moved John’s long intro to Dizzy from the end of She’s A Woman and put that in front of Dizzy after Baby’s In Black later). You Can’t Do That starts immediately after She’s A Woman , non-stop action of having 3 songs in a row starting the show. In 1964 they started with Twist And Shout into You Can’t Do That anyway, so having it early in the set works. Then you have IWTHYH and then George’s first tune of the night. Baby’s In Black slows things down before Dizzy revs it back up. No need to overthink the running order, and no need to go crazy with editing. My crossfades are seamless and everything flows fine so you’d never know these were put in the middle of the show.
To include everything, I decided to add 4 “encores” from various bootleg sources after Long Tall Sally fades out. Since Long Tall Sally and I’m Down are set closers, this also works because one ends the main set, and one ends the show. But if I don’t want to play the 4 extra tunes I added, then Long Tall Sally is still the end.

The Beatles Live At The Hollywood Bowl ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!
This album to me, is solid proof of the Beatles hard rock credibility!
This new Live At The Hollywood Bowl showcases the hard rockin power and force the Beatles were live!
This is rock and roll looking for a fight! This is the real thing, developed from back alley bars and clubs! This is the result of hours of relentless playing, this is histories greatest rock and roll band, and we can finally hear just how awesome they really were, not in the studio, but doing it where it really counts… LIVE!
Nowhere else have I heard the Beatles music this forceful, this powerful! Those two elements come blasting thru on this album!
The result is so many rockin highlights.
She’s A Woman , as I’ve said is just bad to the bone! Lennon’s rhythm just propels the song and the Beatles are absolutely tight and I do mean tight! It’s just a driving hard rockin performance. McCartney just let’s loose with some awesome rock and roll shouting, the whole performance is just smokin! A lot of the Beatles fast rockers are songs by other artist. I love the fact that this hard rocking performance is one of their own original songs!
Dizzy Miss Lizzy , again is just heavy metal in 1964! This is just an absolutely amazing hard rockin performance! Every time Lennon screams the Beatles go into harder rock mode! The absolute assault of the guitars is just astonishing for 1964! This is absolute proof of what Lennon said, that when it came to straight rock, no one could touch the Beatles!
Roll Over Beethoven , Harrison’s lead guitar touches are just choice! George isn’t the greatest lead player, but what he chooses to do is just perfect! Lennon’s rhythm playing is no joke either!
Boys , many think this is the highlight of the album, I can hear why!
This is just another absolutely hard rockin performance by the Beatles! Ringo’s drumming is just kickbutt and I love how you can really hear it, Harrison’s lead choices are again just absolute perfect choice, and pay attention to McCartney, he’s laying down a rockin bassline!
The main thing that got my attention though is Ringo’s vocal! He sings this song so good!
Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby , this is another one, the Beatles lock in and just rock this bad boy, what I love most about this performance is the rockin extended playing the Beatles do. I wish they had done more jamming on stage.
What an absolutely fantastic hard rockin live album form the Beatles!
This EPIC album, should be #1!

I realised today that I find the bootlegs perfectly listenable and enjoyable and have zero desire to hear a remixed hodgepodge let alone pay £11 for it. I will therefore pick up a copy for £5 somewhere along the line.

I was waiting for someone to agree with me on this! Here in Canada it’s $10 on iTunes, which would be about £6. which isn’t so bad, but like you, I’ll wait!

11 pounds is definitely more than I paid for it, but the difference is clear compared to the bootlegs I own.
Its been manipulated tho; they may have a better source but as soon as they reduce x and boost y I begin to lose interest. At least the bootleg is as it was and i’ve heard and listened to far worse than screams. Truth be told the screams on bootlegs don’t bother me much.

‘Live At the Hollywood Bowl’ is #3 in the UK album charts. No idea about sales #’s but got to be happy with that; i was thinking getting near the top 10 would be a decent showing.

Unofficially, yes! I’m sure you can still find them on Ebay, or Discogs or other places. Seen some nice mini LP style too, that I would replace the new cover with, if I were to buy this new CD
