LET IT BE (1970) AVERAGED RANK
This is a copy paste:
I decided to go on a task of continuing and updating list of every post averaged in the thread to create a decent ranking of the tracks off every album. In this case Let It Be . I clarify my process and rules below.
1 – Across the Universe (343 points)
2 – Two of Us (342 points)
3 – I’ve Got a Feeling (314 points)
4 – Get Back (288 points)
5 – Let It Be (281 points)
6 – I Me Mine (277 points)
7 – Dig a Pony (257 points)
8 – The Long and Winding Road (211 points)
9 – One After 909 (201 points)
10 – For You Blue (157 points)
11 – Dig It/Maggie Mae (tied at 52 points)

Averaging process and rules:
A pretty classic averaging system; it goes basically by giving the maximum amount of points to the top track on every post (in this case 11) and as the list progresses into the “worst” tracks each track gets one point less. The last track gets no points. For this to apply the post must have the 12 Let It Be songs ranked.
IMPORTANT: if you think one of your rankings might have one of these ambiguous qualities that might disqualify it and you want to be counted in the averaging DON’T edit it; post it again with more detail, otherwise I won’t be able to subtract the points and add them again and it won’t be counted anyway.
Particular cases:
-NO. 1- Sometimes if there is a track missing but there’s a written clarification, it can be counted. In the case of Abbey Road , for instance, some people don’t count Her Majesty . In that case I count the post and give no points to Her Majesty only if there is a written statement of why its missing. If one track is missing and the post doesn’t have any written clarification then it is considered a mistake and therefore disqualified.
-NO. 2- The tracklist considered is taken out of the Wikipedia/RYM/Discogs “official” tracklists. This means those who rank the Abbey Road Medley as a whole don’t get counted unless they clarify by writing that the tracks separately also rank that way, same with any variation of the sort.
-NO. 3- If a person implies to a previous post that “that would exactly be [their] ranking” and don’t post any ranking themselves, then the points of the first person will be added a second time in behalf of the second person.
-NO. 4- Only one person each ranking. If you posted several times your changes, only the last one will be counted (unless it has any mistakes, missing tracks, etc., in that case then the last one that has no issues will be the one counted).
-NO. 5- The rankings are considered given the numbers apply to them, “1” universally represents the top spot. Unless there is a written statement that clarifies it’s the other way around, this is the way it will be counted.
-NO. 6- If there are no numbers on the ranking and no written clarification it could go either way. At first I used to think the ones at the top were the number 1 spot but in some cases it just isn’t that way. So I decided I’ll just grab the worst rated track up to that point and I see if it falls on the top half or the bottom half. If it falls on the top half I’ll consider the bottom half the top spot and if it falls on the bottom half then I’ll consider the top half the top spot. It might be unfair at times as it might reverse someones’ ranking if they are unlucky by voting positively a previously negatively voted track, but in the grand scheme of things I think it was mostly accurate. In case that the number of tracks is odd (A Hard Day’s Night , Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour , Yellow Submarine ‘s Side B & Abbey Road ) and the worst rated track falls in precisely the middle spot then I just take the second to worst rated and judge as to where that one falls.
-NO. 7- If there are “ties” in someone’s ranking their ranking can still be counted but it won’t represent exactly the ties in the overall averaging. If there is still a list-like format then I go from the bottom to the top adding points just like usual, so tied tracks can get different scores but just differing in one single point or two (unless you tie like 5 tracks together), but I think it’s more fair than not letting those people participate at all. It might seem unfair but if the tied tracks were to get the same points, it would increasingly leave an averaging gap between those songs so it’s mathematically better to just stick to the original adding process.
-NO. 8- If there are two tracks that are “tied” then I will just give more points to the one that is named first, regardless of descriptions, just to keep the whole thing going. Unless there’s a specific written clarification of why one of the tracks is better or more of a favourite, then I’ll just give more points to the one named first.
-NO. 9- However, if there’s a tie between three tracks (or more) then that post will no longer be counted unless the list has a specific ranking format in which case see item “-NO. 7-“.
-NO. 10- I guess that if someone doesn’t want to be counted in the averaging he can ask me not to count him in but I hope nobody does that so we get his opinion too
All of these rules are up to debate if someone disagrees with part of the judgement. I’m sure we can reach an agreement if they are considered questionable.
IMPORTANT: if you think one of your rankings might have one of these ambiguous qualities that might disqualify it and you want to be counted in the averaging DON’T edit it; post it again with more detail, otherwise I won’t be able to subtract the points and add them again and it won’t be counted anyway.
Also here’s a playlist with the results from worst to best in case you want to see how effective it proves in practice (I’ll try edit these as well):

Because there’s the thread Ranking of all tunes on Abbey Road , and because let it be is the most underrated album for me, I decided to make this thread.
My ranking:
1. Get Back (nice pop rock song, i like it’s 3 solos, it’s my favourite beatles single)
2. Let It Be (very fine song)
3. I’ve Got A Feeling (I like it’s rock style and the together putting of the paul and john parts are very very good)
4. Two of us (very nice with it’s harmony and acoustic style)
5. I Me Mine (one of george’s best songs, though it would suit better on All Things Must Pass (especially the spector version)
6. The Long And Winding Road (nice song, overproduced though)
7. For You Blue (good song, I like it’s slide guitar, although it gets a bit boring
8. Across The Universe (good song but tamboura and strings don’t work together)
9. Dig A Pony (boring)
10. One After 909 (not so bad, but it isn’t the right style for this album and it’s arrangement is terrible (much worse than the spector overproducing) it sounds as if guys would play it, who play together for the first time)
I don’t count dig it and Maggie Mae as songs. What is your ranking?

2. Long and Winding road
3. Two of us
4. Let it be
5. I Me Mine
6. Get back
7. Ive got a feeling
8. Maggie Mae ( I like his accent)
9. Dig A Pony
10. For You Blue
11. One After 909
12. Dig it
The spaces after first and seventh songs indicate the distance I think can be attributed to the songs “value”. This album just baffles me, it has many great songs and some soundbites that are amusing but maybe not fitting to the Beatles standard. I Me Mine is a spot on by George; I didn’t really get it before I learnt more about the history of the Beatles

1.) I’ve Got A Feeling – This is one of my favorite songs and my favorite song on this album. I heard it heard on the Naked version and that version I prefer, but I still love the original album version. The energy on this song, that bassline, Paul’s screaming, John’s verse, EVERYTHING.
2.) Let It Be – Beautiful Song. One of Paul’s best and ever since a recent occurrence in my life this song has a very special meaning and I love it.
3.) Get Back – This song wasn’t a favorite at first but has grown so much on me. It’s a fantastic song to sing a long with and is an all around fun groove.
4.) Dig A Pony – I love this song mostly because of the instrumentation. They are grooving so hard on this song. Plus I love the ‘Hold it!’
5.) Two of Us- Love the harmony and it really is a sweet song. Plus the whistling at the end is awesome.
6.) One After 909 – Love this song. Once again the energy is fantastic and it sounds like they are having fun singing it.
7.) I Me Mine – Really cool song. I actually like the strings on this one.
8.) Dig It – I love the fade in and I get a kick out of listening to it.
9.) Across The Universe – This is a weird one. I love the lyrics. I love the melody. I hate the production on the album version. I love the version on Naked (I’d rank it higher up is we were judging the Naked version actually) It really is a great song but I hardly listen to it.
10.) Maggie Mae – I like it better than the next two lol
11.) For You Blue – Probably one of my least favorite songs from George. It has a cool groove but it’s boring.
12.) The Long And Winding Road – I used to love this song but now I can barely listen to it. Not sure why they picked that particular take to include on the album because I think the first ‘long’ sounds awful and the song can be a bit boring. I heard the Naked version of this album and got used to the ‘no strings’ version.

Well, this is gonna be my list, of some, sort.
- Dig A Pony , because it is so, of its time, it is riffs dude, and riff-songs weren’t very common in the Beatles’ catalogue. (although I would add Don’t Let Me Down first on the list if it was on the album, ’cause it hits me so hard every time)
- Across The Universe , because it is so beautiful, although the arrangement for the official Let it Be kinda sucks .
- The Long and Winging road, although the arrangement still sucks.
- I Me Mine , which is a beautiful ballad.
- I’ve Got A Feeling , because it’s so heavy
- Two of Us, a rather nice song, very country, very fun to listen to also.
- One After 909 , this could have been 2nd, only if it sounded like the EMI/Cavern version
- Get Back , the solos
- For You Blue , which is a reason why I like George so much, so funkeh………….
- Let it Be, I don’t know why this is so low on my list, maybe it’s the PhilSpector-ization.
- Dig It , WHY IS THIS EVEN ON MY LIST
- Maggie Mae ,
So yea that was me list.

Top 12 Countdown.
#12. Across The Universe . Have said it repeatedly here, the album mix is so slow, boring and tedious, and the Past Masters mix aint much better. Glyn Johns has it is perfected with his mix, check it out and be blown away. Play this concoction and be bored to death. Actually its not the orchestration as i have it speed corrected and it sounds far better. What on earth was Mr Spector thinking? “No it needs to be slower, slooooowwwwwwer, slllllllllllllloooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr……… I want the fans to think they were falling asleep at their instruments and had given up on life.”
#11. Dig It . Filler but fun. 48 seconds is long enough, any more and it starts to get dull.
#10. For You Blue . Its good but not something that grabs me – the solo is cool tho and love the line “you looked at me, thats all you had to do”.
#9. Maggie Mae . Again fun filler. Beatles messing about and having some fun, no harm in that.
#8. One After 909 . Another fun track, evidence that Billy added so much to the band. A cool groove the band got into – better than in ’63.
#7. Let It Be . Maybe i’ve heard it too much, maybe because we have 788 alternate versions and they all sound so damn similar.
#6. The Long And Winding Road . Spectors version is good, not as badly butchered as ATU (see above). Going up in my liking levels. When heard, not that often admittedly, its a delight but prefer the basic take pre-Spector (see Anthology 3 ).
#5. Get Back . Ringos drumming is what brings this alive and we get to hear John do a solo again. Yeay.
#4. Dig A Pony . Yip the lyrics mean nothing but the false start is fabulous, again the groove they get into on the rooftop is incredible, and it just sounds so good, especially when John and Paul harmonise.
#3. I Me Mine . George annoyed by the world and the egos and the Threatles capture it brilliantly (as does George’s spoken intro on Anthology 3 ). Spector got the length right and the orchestration plays its part well.
#2. I’ve Got A Feeling . Everything about it (both lead vocals, proof that they could still play when moved despite the crap all around. How John’s part fits i dont know but somehow it totally works). If i had to pick one song to show that the beatles stand tall today and still sound modern this would probably be it. Bands out there have spent years trying to get this fresh live energetic sound and have come nowhere close. Heck it took the beatles to get off their backsides and play it live in the freezing weather to get it themselves.
#1. Two Of Us . Love the intro (“i dig a pygmy by Charles Hawtrey and the Deaf Aids. Phase 1 in which Doris gets her oats”), Paul and John harmonising like they did in back at the bbc in ’63, the guitars, Ringos understated perfect drums, the whistling outro. Have heard many a Two of Us rehearsal or run through from January ’69 and i never get bored or fed up or annoyed or want to skip.

1. I’ve Got A Feeling – It’s one of those songs when the guitar starts you can just feel it in your chest…you get that feeling 🙂
2. Let It Be – This song is beautiful and I do realize it is played a lot, but somehow it gets better and better each time
3. I Me Mine – George Harrison , do I even have to explain the genius of this human?
4. For You Blue – This song is simple yet complicated at the same time, plus wonderful guitar playing
5. Two Of Us – I love Ringo’s drumming that almost overpasses everything else, like all I want to do is listen to the simple yet beautiful beat
6. Across The Universe – Lyrics, lyrics, lyrics.
7. Get Back – This song had to grow on me, besides my dad used to play it on the record player at faster speeds then it should have gone so every time I listen to it I hear them singing in really high pitched voices
8. The Long And Winding Road – It’s a beautiful song, it’s just not my favorite
9. Dig A Pony – It is amusing to sing along with, and I love listening to it in the dark with my eyes closed just soaking it in… but that’s not much different than every other Beatles song!
10. One After 909s – Again, not my favorite.
I don’t feel the need to explain in depth, it’s just how I feel and which ones make me feel better when I’m listening to them, the ones that suck me in more.

12. The Looooong and Whinging Road
11. Maggie May – Wish it didn’t end prematurely, actually
10. Dig It – Another one i wish had been a bit longer, although the entire uncut 8 or 12 or whatever-minute version would be stretching it, surely…
9. For You Blue – a really weak song but a cheerful performance, one of the few carefree moments here
8. I Dig A Pony – another throwaway from John on his worst album as a Beatle; some of the time-signature changes and nonsensiscal lyrics are kinda interesting though.
7. I’ve Got A Feeling – Certainly no “Day in the Life”, nor even “Baby You’re A Rich Man “, as far as Len-Mac Frankensteins go. Nicely performed though with almost-noisy guitars.
6. I Me Mine – I’ve always loved the tunefulness of this, and how the mournfulness of the verses counterbalances the cheery “I me me mine!” nonsense. Weird to hear George and Paul alone. Phil Spector did the right thing by extending this one.
5.” Let It Be – I really don’t like this one as much as most people, it’s one of my least-loved Beatles “absolute classics” in fact. Mostly because I tend to have an aversion to much gospel-reminiscent music. But George’s guitar solo is mighty indeed. (And a similar solo could’ve/would’ve/should’ve livened up the second half of that other absolute classic that leaves me a bit underwhelmed, “Hey Jude “, but that’s another topic.)
4. Get Back – Boogie! And some nice solos from John and Billy.
3. One After 909 – For me, the absolute highlight of the rooftop recordings, and one of the most underrated straight rockers The Beatles ever did. Chuck Berry could’ve done it.
2. Two Of Us – Three McCartney compositions from this album were released as singles (in the USA) and all hit #1, and yet I’ll take this overlooked little item over all of them.
1. Across The Universe – Too good for this album, unfortunately, which it didn’t really belong on anyways.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I’m going to bring this topic back up to date because I felt like posting.
One After 909 – I like the solo for the most part, but considering I found the rest of the album fairly depressing, this one was nice.
Two Of US – I really like the bass on this, and once I figured out it was George, I was not surprised. I like his bass lines a lot.
Dig A Pony – I like the riff for the most part, but the rest is great too.
I’ve Got A Feeling – Probably my 2nd favorite bass line on the album.
Across The Universe – I’m not used to the faster versions of this song yet, so I like yhis version more, and the lyrics are good too.
For You Blue – The naked version is nicer, but yeah.
I Me Mine – I never really paid much attention to this song, but the faster parts are pretty fun.
Get Back – This would probably be up higher, but I like the rest of the album more, so here it is.
Dig It – You may be wondering why this is above the “holy 2” but I’ll elaborate.
The Long And Winding Road – I have problems with this and Let It Be . They’re both Paul songs led by piano and walled by orchestration. I always preferred it backing up the other instruments. The anthology and naked takes do that better.
Let It Be – see above. I was never gaga about the solo, but I’ll take it.
Maggie Mae – meh

Let it Be is one of my top 5 Beatles Albums. Much better than the critics suggest. Fewer stinkers than the White Album . LOVE the rooftop sessions.

11. Maggie Mae -same reason, but it is more fun.
10. Long and Winding Road-it’s a beautiful song, it just seems to drag.
9. I Me Mine -I like the message of the song, but it just doesn’t do anything for me.
8. Dig A Pony -the musicality is better, still doesn’t do anything for me.
7. Across The Universe -love the song, it just doesn’t fit on the album in my opinion.
6. Let it Be-wonderful song, arrangement could be better.
5. Get Back -it’s a good closer for the album.
4. I’ve Got A Feeling -puts me in a good mood!
3. For You Blue -I want a guy to pull out a guitar and sing it for me!

11. Dig it
10. One After 909
Those were the filler tracks in my opinion. Nothing of substance really there, Just filler. Now for the real content:
9. The Long And Winding Road : too sappy and while it’s ‘nice’ it’s a song i find annoying. my negative comments stop here.
8. For You Blue . Lyrically it’s not that great so that’s why i rate it at 8, but the groove is awesome. One of my favorite songs to play on an acoustic.
7. Get Back : Anthology version is SOOOOOOOOOO much better.
6. Two of us. a nice song.
5. I’ve Got A Feeling . A cool song.
4. Let it Be: it’s a little on the sappy side, but this time Paul pulls it off nicely. Points given the state of the band and the pending breakup.
3. Dig A Pony : don’t get why some people play it down.
2. I Me Mine : Love this song. Ringo’s drumming is top notch.
1. Across The Universe : One of the beatles finest compositions.
