I love it, although I do prefer LIBN.Great tracks on there though>Across The Universe and I Me Mine being the best in my humble opinion.Of course, Let it be isn’t exactly bad either! 🙂

Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

On every song from let it be to naked at least one thing was changed (i think every song was made better i think)
Two Of Us (the dialogues were taken away)
Dig A Pony (the dialogues are taken away)
Across The Universe (no orchestra)
I Me Mine (no orchestra)
Dig It (taken away)
Let It Be (different solo, no orchestra, some minor edits)
Maggie Mae (taken away)
I’ve Got A Feeling (take mixed together with a new one)
One After 909 (no danny boy line)
The Long And Winding Road (different take and no orchestra)
For You Blue (no dialogues and acoustic guitar again audible)
Get Back (no diaologues)

The dialogues are not good at the beginnings and ends of the songs i think, when i wanted to play two of us before i knew naked, i had to listen to a few seconds of dialogue before the song started, and i hated it. So i think it’s a big plus for naked, they’re much better on another disc together with snippets of other songs) This and because i don’t like the overproduced orchestras on let it be is why i prefer naked

If Paul rerecorded the bass of the song let it be on 4th january 1970 and he, george and linda rerecorded the harmony vocals of the same song on the same day, john isn’t audible on the final mix of let it be, is he?

Can someone explain something to me? How did George, who took a massive step forward on the White Album , only give (or get through John and Paul) two horrible songs? How do you go from “While My Guitar…” and “Long Long Long” to “For You Blue ” and “I Me Mine “? How does that happen?

I have no idea. And it wasn’t that all hissongs weren’t good, he had great songs (All Things Must Pass , Isn’t It A Pity ; Something was unfinished) but they recorded songs which were much worse (I like I Me Mine but it was certainly worse than While My Guitar Gently Weeps , All Things Must Pass or Isn’t It A Pity

John and George’s backing vocals are on the single mix along with the new harmony vocals. The backing vocals are also on the Spector album mix but only for the first chorus. John’s bass was wiped and replaced in both.

I’m glad to see attention paid to this album. I myself have long neglected it even though I like many of the songs.

I’ve had trouble shaking the negativities associated with it.

As a guitarist (amateur), it’s always bothered me that Spector chose a version of “Let It Be ” with such a weak guitar solo (I know, I know, it was never meant to be a stand-alone solo – so why is it on the album?) while the single has such a nice solo.

More importantly, the album was released a month or so after the Beatles officially disbanded. The album was now old news. (For crying out loud, McCartney had already released his first album!).

It was like a letter from the grave or a fresh picture from a girl who just broke up with you.

It was one big, dark cloud.

But yes, there are many wonderful songs. If it were some other band’s debut album, I’d think it was absolutely terrific!

On the album version, guitar solo on Let it be is awesome. Not sure what do you mean by “weak”? Weak guitar solo is the one you can listen on “promo video” of Let it be.

The guitar solo on the album version of “Let It Be ” was never meant to be a solo. It was going to be  the “background” guitar behind the real solo. That’s why, although pleasant enough, (IMO) it meanders without any real punch.

Phil Spector would be glad to know you like it!

Does anyone know why paul rerecorded the bass on the song let it be? Did John do any mistakes? Did John play a boring a bass line? Or didn’t they want to have john on a beatles single after he quit the band? Has anyone got an idea?

1) He was a perfectionist – he thought he could do a better line then John did, and he was right.
2) John only did it because they weren’t doing overdubs – with the backing vocals and orchestra added at the same time, he figured he could break that rule once more.
3) It was his song – he didn’t give a f*** about being fair – it was his song, he knew it was good, and he wanted it done his way.

Additionally, either George (Martin or Harrison, who were both there the day LIB was overdubbed) might have said “Geez, this bassline sucks – maybe this ought be redone”, and he could have gone to Cavendish (or sent Linda) to get a bass.

Thank you mr. Sun King you really helped me. After reading this I listened to the second glyn johns mix of let it be, and the bass line really wasn’t very good. Anyway, meanmistermustard, the backing vocals in this mix sound completly different to the ones in all other released versions and as far as I remember macdonald doesn’t list john in singing harmony vocals (I’m not sure, though, I borrowed this book from a friend a month ago but I gave it back last week), are you sure these backing vocals are still audible in the final mix

Edit: Does anyone know on which bass paul played the bass line of let it be?

According to John C. Winn they are. Wiki lists John on backing vocals (not that its a great source) as does Joe. RITH doesnt have John on backing vocals but has him playing bass as does Joe

But isnt it widely excepted that Paul rerecorded the bass removing Johns at the same time (see above posts)? Joe, why do you list John playing bass, just a query?

This who plays what on what can get confusing at times.

It will probably always be a mystery if john sang backing vocals on let it be. Anyway Joe corrected the bass thing, john is now only listed in singing backing vocals, altough the site now doesn’t say at all who played bass

It doesn’t really matter that much, the most importing thing is that song is marvelous.

That’s always been very hard to figure.  I wouldn’t go so far as calling “I Me Mine ” and “For You Blue ” horrible — in fact, I quite like the guitar lines in “I Me Mine “, while “For You Blue ” is something you can drum your fingers on the steering wheel to.

But there were three better Harrisongs that could have been included on LET IT BE in their place.

George did demo versions of “All Things Must Pass “, “Isn’t It A Pity” and “Let It Down ” during the sessions for this album — and there apparently was a full-band recording done of the first (you can hear a snippit on the “Fly on the Wall” disc that was a part of LET IT BE – NAKED ).   As George proved when he released his solo album, they were all excellent songs and superior to “I Me Mine ” and “For You Blue “.   In fact, I’d go so far as to say “Isn’t It A Pity ” is among the best song George — or John and Paul — ever wrote.  It definitely lends credence to George’s complaints about the others not taking his work seriously.

And I guess Paul must have thought they weren’t bad after all, having performed “All Things Must Pass ” himself at concerts.

I've got nothing to say, but it's okay..

GOOD MORNING!

Paul and John had no interest in ATMP , LID or IIAP as can be heard from the nagra’s. The only decent performace of ATMP clearly shows how little John and Paul cared as both sound bored and elsewhere.

I think George was a bit hesitant in offering his songs at this point anyway because of the how John and Paul had responded to earlier works. It was more ‘i’ve written this, what do you think, how about giving it a go’. For You Blue was probably chosen because it was a complete George song, although the vocal was rerecorded and overdubbed months later, and featured in the film, there wasnt much else. I Me Mine  had to be recorded in January 1970 because there wasnt 1 decent complete performance a year eariler and it was also to be in the film, plus John was not a fan of it. Old Brown Shoe was rehearsed a few times but wasnt considered ready to be properly attempted.

Its thought by some that George would have been a bit bemused with Paul playing All Things Must Pass considering the level of apathy he showed it in the beginning.
