It’d be cool if they release it as a hidden track in disc 5
Yes, it would be, but I don’t think it’s likely to happen.
Never knows if Apple is involved…

What Let It Be 50th anniversary editions will everyone be getting? I will be getting the 2CD edition.
None. For what i’ve seen this is the less appealing to me by far. Maybe the book is great but well, you know… as much as i enjoy looking at their pictures I love The Beatles because of their music and musically speaking i find this set not interesting at all.
Honestly i’ve grown a bit tired of these new mixes thing. I couldn’t care less. At this point of my life i just wanna listen to how they worked on their stuff. I wanna listen to the evolution of their tracks and the decissions they took on that matter.
I understand that that idea is not very comercial friendly and i have accepted, deluxe after deluxe release, that Apple is not going in that direction at all.
So i’m passing this time.
I’ll wait to see if Jackson’s new film is released in whatever format and get it. But my expectations on that are also quite low.

The ‘92 release of ‘MMT’? Wasn’t that an EP Cd box set filled with something like 13 EPs on CDs? Don’t think that one counts.I’ll give you ‘FOTW’.
Here’s hoping Joe and Ron are right.
Yes it was. I just got that boxset (The Beatles Compact Disc EP Collection) and it features the MMT EP as CD. I posted the boxset here:

I probably should’ve clarified. When they released the MMT EP on CD in 1992, they used 2 separate discs, one for the mono mix and another for the stereo mix, despite both having a combined total of only 38 minutes in length.

Regardless of length the box was a recreation of all the Beatles UK EP’s, most are about 10 minutes long and the entire contents could fit on three CD’s, so I don’t see the issue – tho I’ve never been sure of the reason why the mono and stereo mixes of only ‘MMT’ were included.
I have the box. I got it for Christmas in the 90’s and loved looking at the contents; having 13(?) CD’s was incredible for a young Beatles fan.

I believe Giles Martin said remixing anything before Sgt. Pepper was too difficult to do at this moment in time. And there’s also a clear belief that all the best pre-1967 outtakes were already released on Anthology.

‘LIBN’ is a complete waste of time and should be buried alongside long-forgotten compilations such as ‘Beatles Ballads’, ‘Rock And Roll Music ’ and ‘Reel Music’.
I wouldn’t go that far but it is true that – with the exception of “The Long And Winding Road ” – it’s just the same takes in a different order. Plus the removal of the chatter and impromptu bit leaves it, for me, a bit too clean, too sterile.
At the other extreme, Johns’s versions sound like the rehearsal for the album rather than the album itself. I know that was the original concept, but I can see why they might have changed their minds after they heard it.
Despite all the criticism it’s received over the years, maybe the Spector version does strike the right balance after all.
Or maybe the solution is just to have them all out there as a sort of “Choose Your Own Adventure”.

Same. Nothing against Giles Martin, but I’m not really interested in hearing all this continual remixing of the same tracks.

Just because Giles isn’t able to significantly remix the older albums shouldn’t mean that we can’t have super deluxe reissues of each. They could put out the complete Please Please Me sessions and fans would absolutely lap it up. In fact, given the speed with which they were recorded, with sessions fitted around live dates and filming etc, they could probably put out box sets containing almost everything recorded for each album up to and including Rubber Soul . From Revolver onwards they spent more time in the studio, so that would have to be more carefully curated like the recent box sets.
Admittedly the chances of the complete sessions being released are slim, but I live in hope. They did do that Bootleg Recordings 1963 digital album in 2013, to extend copyright ownership, and that contained a fair few PPM outtakes.
Anthology barely scratched the surface and, with a handful of exceptions (Yesterday , I’m Only Sleeping , Strawberry Fields, Mr Kite!, Fool On The Hill), there was only one version of each song (plus occasional false starts). They’ve abandoned that policy with the recent box sets.

I’m looking forward to this box, but I’ve got some reservations about it.
I think a “5-song CD” in 2021 is an insult.
Since ‘Get Back ‘ began as a “back to our roots” project, I would’ve liked to have seen more covers of rock n roll songs that were part of their early setlists.
If they didn’t want to pay royalties for the rock oldies, they could’ve at least given us another full disc of Beatle songs, since we know so many hours of recordings exist from ‘Get Back /’LIB ‘.
I’m looking forward to the early take on “Gimme Some Truth ,” “Maggie Mae /Fancy My Chances” and the “Let It Be /”Please Please Me ” medley, among other songs.
As for the rooftop concert, I’m actually not too bothered about only one track being on the box set. I’ve always seen the rooftop performances as more of a visual than and audio experience, and we know the film of the performance will be included in Jackson’s new movie.

I admit that I’ve spent the least amount of time researching LIB than any other album, so I’m hoping one of the gurus can fill in a few gaps in my knowledge. I’m specifically curious about the Glyn Johns 1969 mixes. These will be new to me and I’m eager to hear them, but will these be the same that have been widely bootlegged already? From what I can gather, these 1969 mixes might be the closest thing to a “true” Beatles album to stem from this project. Even though they were rejected, at least every band member knew about them! The same can’t be said for the “official” Spector version.
And what about Glyn Johns’ second attempt, the 1970 mixes? Are they basically the same or are we really missing out on a treasure with their exclusion from the deluxe set?
Of course I’ve read Joe’s LIB article with quotes from Glyn. He obviously put in the most work and prefers his mixes. But will they be worth the price of admission for the deluxe box set? Perhaps someone could share some light or thoughts on the significance of these mixes.

Good to see you, @glazball.
The earliest known Beatles bootleg was an album called Kum Back, which started circulating in the US and Canada in January 1970.
The tracklisting being:
Side 1: Get Back / The Walk / Let It Be / Teddy Boy / Two of Us
Side 2: Don’t Let Me Down / I’ve Got A Feeling / The Long And Winding Road / For You Blue / Dig A Pony / Get Back (Reprise)
Not Johns’ first attempt at the album (which is the one on the 50th anniversary release), it was an acetate of Johns’ mixes that John took to Canada in 1969 when he played the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival as the Plastic Ono Band on 13 September 1969. John gave the acetate to a journalist who passed it onto a DJ, with it being played in full by a Boston DJ who’d got a copy from the first DJ on 22 September 1969.
Because acetates of all Johns’ mixes, and possible versions had been cut, all were circulating by the end of 1970 and are well known.
In my opinion, Johns’ original mix was the most faithful to the original vision of the project, and it’s fantastic to see it get an official release with the sound being as good as it can be with the remaster, as shown by the tracks we so far have.
An important set of mixes, but they have been circulating in various versions since the very first Beatles bootleg, the plus this time is that they’ve been remastered, with them sounding better than they did before, even those previously included on Anthology 3 .
The first version of Johns’ album was one of my first bootlegs in 1982/83, and I look forward to hearing the remaster.
