It seems this thread is being allowed by the mods to get very off-topic to allow it to become yet another *yawn* anti-Yoko thread.
How boring. And how disappointing that a mod hasn’t redirected this conversation to one of our many “How do we hate Yoko? Let me count the ways…” threads.
I almost considered adding my tuppence worth, which would’ve been interesting, but realised I would be perpetuating the complete derailing of this thread…

She can be criticised, @meanmistermustard, but I do not see how the criticism of her in this thread has anything to do with the subject of this thread. Perhaps you can explain how Yoko’s supposed commercial exploitation of John’s image relates to whether we should consider Let It Be or Abbey Road as the last Beatles album? I see no connection, and a mod should have asked for that unrelated conversation to be explored in a more appropriate thread.

Its “connection” to the subject being discussed here is something that I brought to the table while trying to make the point that the ‘Let It Be ‘ album was a compilation album, or more of a business arrangement as opposed to, Paul ringing up George Martin and saying “let’s make an album like we used to”… I used the comparison to the ‘Anthology’ project where Yoko Ono’s name inevitably comes up… I make no apologies…
In my opinion, over-moderation has “derailed” more threads around here than “off-topic” discussions have… Many are very passionate when discussing Yoko Ono, it’s to be expected… As you stated, it gets “boring” after awhile when it turns into a “Yoko Roast” but I don’t really see that happening here… We’re discussing specific business dealings that are relative, I feel, to the ‘Let It Be ‘ album…:-)

I think the Yoko conversation was relevant here, as we were discussion Beatles’ permissions on releases, a topic in which Yoko Ono is a key figure.

One thing I don’t like is how Sean and Yoko feel this great responsibility to speak on behalf of John, even though it has always been acceptable that nobody should even seek out the permission of a dead man in the first place.

Dhani and Olivia have done exactly the same regarding George’s legacy, with Dhani saying in the past few days that he sometimes needs to take a break from that role so as not resent his father.
I have no problems with a passing reference to how other permissions affect things, but I have no problem with saying that Yoko’s supposed exploitation of John’s legacy has little to nothing to do with whether Beatles fans should consider Let It Be or Abbey Road as the last Beatles album.
I haven’t heard anyone in the inner circle argue that LiB should be considered as the final Beatles album before they broke up. They all consider AR as the last album, and have said so repeatedly.
I still see no connection between a car advert and which should be considered as the last Beatles album, though I do have, what I think are, interesting points to make on John’s attitude to advertising and how he used his image when alive, but don’t think this is the thread in which to share those those thoughts as those thoughts have nothing at all to do with the subject of this thread.

And, I’ll add that it was an interesting conversation. We could use more of that in this Forum regardless of the thread in which it appears. While staying on topic is desirable, folks should not have to stop midstream to wonder in which thread the conversation should be moved. Too bad this one had to come to a screeching halt. Now THAT’s disappointing.

I’m of the opinion that conversations that are suddenly halted cannot be restarted in the same place and continue on as if never stopped. The moment is gone, if others want to continue it then carry on.
A disappointing end to an interesting discussion that was carried out respectfully on both sides.

Well… I’ve said my piece, and you’ve stated yours… but, if I could be so bold to bring in a “datapoint”, if you like… Here’d be a good start, in my opinion…

If only for, he did use the word “interesting” which appears to be a recurring theme here… Please understand, Mr. Nasty, that I’m not “calling you out” here but genuinely “interested”, as many others here whom value your opinion will attest, on your thoughts to this discussion wherever it may lead us… I DO believe that your “tuppence worth” would’ve been most “interesting” but, also understand that, some things are better left unsaid…:-)

So John would approve of his image being used to sell ice cream or Citroen cars?Yes, I believe that he would’ve… He certainly participated in many other “silly” (for lack of a better word) antics to promote their message of peace, why not extend the billboards to ice cream labels on a brand found in just about every grocery store here in North America? As far as the “Citroen cars” go, I’m not sure what exactly you’re talking about there… I do remember a car commercial in the 80’s featuring “something in the way she moves” to the tune of a George Harrison song so I don’t see any reason why John wouldn’t follow suit…
Well this quote by Sean Lennon makes me think John wouldn’t have been okay with using his image to sell random unrelated things like ice cream and cars.
And he would always turn the TV off during the commercials. I would go, “Dad, we’re going to miss some of it.” And he would go, “No, we’re not.” He’d wait two minutes, then put the TV back on. He told me that anything you ever see on a commercial is a lie.
If he hated commercials that much, it probably extended into billboards since they’re really the same thing.
Perhaps you’re not familiar with this part of John & Yoko’s progressive Peace Campaign… Read this Beatles’ Bible article for more info:
https://www.beatlesbible.com/1…..-launched/
Again, why would John be so against Yoko carrying on this legacy through grocery labels? I also wonder if Sean’s own memories were somewhat obscured by the fact that he would’ve been only 5 years old or younger when he last watched television with his father… Also, let us not forget that John used a Corn Flakes commercial as inspiration to write ‘Good Morning, Good Morning’ as well…:-)
I’ve heard him quoted as saying, ‘I like slogans. I like advertising, I love the telly’ and making the connection between songs such as ‘Give Peace A Chance ‘ and ‘All You Need Is Love ‘ and propoganda.
So…
